Work Text:
“Henry, c'mon it's time for dinner!” Donna calls for her 5 year old son as she walks into the living room while holding her 2 year and a half daughter.
“But mommy, daddy hasn't called yet” Harvey's mini me says pouting and he looks so much like his father in that moment that Donna's heart beats a little bit faster at the sight.
Everytime Harvey goes on a work trip he calls every single day to make sure to talk to Henry and Mia. Since going to Los Angeles and then to New York to help Ted Black, Harvey has called, but today must’ve been so busy for him that he hasn’t found the time yet.
“I know, baby” she places Mia on the ground with her favorite doll and sits by Henry's side “Daddy is kinda busy saving Metropolis but he is going to call. Just like he did yesterday. Okay?”
“Daddy!” Mia shouts and smiles at her mommy who smiles back at her.
“Yes, Mia, daddy will call to talk to all of us” Donna says.
“Can we text him just to make sure he doesn't forget?” Henry proposes with hopeful eyes.
“He would never forget to call you two but yes we can text him. I'm going to get your Ipad, wait here with your sister” Donna says and gets up as the little boy's eyes shine as he nods.
When Donna comes back, she smiles softly seeing Henry sitting on the floor and playing with his sister. Henry was a surprise that Harvey and Donna weren't expecting at all but welcomed with so much love that almost made them explode. The little boy is a copy of his dad whilst being totally clingy with his mommy, just like his father is. Mia was more of a plan and when they found out Donna was pregnant with a girl Harvey was over the moon. He claimed that Donna had already won the lottery with a mini him and he wanted a mini her too. Mia was exactly like that, a copy of Donna and such a daddy's girl. But the truth is, both of the kids have had their father wrapped around their little fingers since the minute they were born.
“Here it is, honey. Let's text him. What do you want to say?” Donna asks, sitting on the couch again while holding the Ipad.
“Say 'daddy when are you going to call'. Is that okay?” Henry asks, looking at his mom with his big brown eyes.
“Yes, that is very much okay. Just sent it. Now let's wait, alright?”
“Okay” the boy nods and turns back to play with Mia who's focused on her toy.
“C’mon you two, let's go have dinner so we can be ready when he calls, okay?” she gets up from the couch.
“Yes!” both kids shout together as their mom smiles.

From the moment he saw Henry's text, Harvey wanted to drop everything and go straight back home. Leaving his wife and his kids was never easy for him and he knew it wasn't easy for them too. He thought about calling right at that second but decided to wait a little bit so he could talk to them without being interrupted.
When he finally got a moment for himself, he checked the hour and texted Donna to know if it was a good time to call. His wife replied with a Yes, please, we miss you and he grinned like a fool.
“Hey, hotshot” Donna smiles at the sight of her husband sitting on their bed in Harvey's old penthouse and looking at her with heart eyes.
“Hey, beautiful. I'm sorry for not calling sooner. How are things over there?”
“It's okay, everything is fine. Henry was just missing you so much he wanted to text you to make sure you wouldn't forget to call today” she grins “How's everything with Ted?”
“We're working on it. We'll get the job done” he replies.
“I'm sure you will. You are the best man for any job after all” she blinks at him and he smirks at her “Let me go to Henry's room so you can talk to him, just a minute”
“Okay. Did I tell you, you look beautiful today?” he flirts.
“Oh well, Mr. Specter, you did not. It's never too late to change that, though” she smiles at Harvey as she walks towards their son's room.
“Mrs. Paulsen-Specter, you look absolutely gorgeous today, as always” Harvey says “I miss you. Can't wait to go home”
“I miss you too, babe. You do what you have to do over there but come home soon, okay?” Donna says with shiny eyes of her own.
“Okay. Promise”
“Henry, there's someone here who would like to talk to you” she sits on her son's bed and passes him the phone. The moment the little boy locks eyes with his father he smiles so brightly that Donna's heart almost explodes.
“Daddy! You called!”
“Of course I did, buddy, I would never forget” Harvey smiles at the sight of his boy “I’m sorry I didn't call sooner, okay? But I'm glad you're still up”
“It's okay, mommy said you are busy saving Metropolis” Henry says in a serious but cute tone and both Donna and Harvey chuckle.
“Well, I am Superman after all, aren't I?” Harvey replies and Henry nods.
“And mommy is Lois Lane, aren't you mommy?” he looks back at his mom.
“Yes, honey, I am” she smiles and kisses the top of his head “Now, while you two talk I will check on Mia and bring her here to talk to daddy too, okay?”
“Okay” both Henry and Harvey nod and smile at her with their cheshire grin, the same one she fell in love with ages ago.
As Donna gets up and leaves the room she looks back to see her son getting cozy in his bed wearing his favorite pajamas as he tells his daddy all about his day while Harvey listens and engages with everything the little boy says. This has been her reality for the past 5 years and she still can't get used to the fact that the love of her life is the father of her two adorable kids and that that's what her life looks like now. In that moment she thanks the universe, once again, for being able to be a part of this. She wouldn't change what they have for the world. Everything is just perfect.
