Chapter Text
The first time it happened, Seulgi damned nearly lost her mind.
It was overall a bad day. She had a long day of lectures, as early as 8 AM and only finished her last class at 8 PM. To make matters worse, she got paired with an infamous free-rider on that very last class, who practically sprinted out of class before she could even sit up to approach her – what an absolute fucker .
The project will count for 25% of her final grade in the class for the whole semester, so to say that being ghosted was stressing her out is an understatement.
It had been raining non-stop, but luckily for her, it stopped before the last lecture was done. She figured she could immediately go home to unwind, so she immediately packed up her stuff soon after the free-rider fiasco.
The route to her apartment wasn’t long. It usually took her around a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute taxi ride. There was no way a broke college student like her would choose a taxi ride while sober, so she opted on walking her usual route home.
However, the universe seemed like it was against her that day. She had walked the same streets a hundred times, but this particular day just kept getting worse. You see, Seulgi did notice some potholes on her previous walks, but she didn’t think much of it because she doesn’t drive anyway.
Well, she should’ve. Because after raining all day long, there was bound to be puddles pooling in those potholes. And what happened when a car sped past them?
Splash!
It happened in a matter of seconds. One second Seulgi was texting her roommate, Yeri, that she was on her way home. The next, she was drenched with filthy rain water from head to toe.
“FUCK!” was all she could scream. She noticed some passersby stopping in their tracks to look at her, she wasn’t sure if it was out of pity or fear. She decided not to find out, urging her feet to move faster so she could be home as soon as possible.
Being angry got her home in less than 15 minutes, not even caffeine could help her reach home that fast. As soon as she walked through the door, she put her bag down with a wet thud. She knew she should see if there was any damage on her books, but she couldn’t bring herself to care that night.
She moved into the apartment silently, leaving a wet trail behind her like some terrifying swamp monster. She saw Yeri watching the TV, decided against saying anything and instead made a beeline towards her room. The sound of wet cloth – or the horrid smell – probably caught her attention, because Yeri’s gaze soon found hers.
“Jesus!” she exclaimed, “What the fuck happened to you?!”
“Let’s not,” Seulgi held her hand up, groaning at Yeri’s surprised expression. “I’d rather not talk about it.”
She knew Yeri wanted to ask more questions, but the knit in her brows and the tightness of her lips told her that she was trying her best to understand her wishes. So she simply nodded, and Seulgi was grateful.
“Let’s just play Fortnite after I shower,” Seulgi muttered, “I need a proper platform to crash out.”
Yeri sighed as she got up from the couch, stopping Seulgi before she could reach her room. “Wait here. I’ll grab your clothes so you don’t have to bring this,” she gestured at her messy state, “into your room. Just wait in the bathroom.”
At least she still had a good roommate. She whispered a soft thank you before going to their shared bathroom. She pulled out her phone and set it on the sink. Thank God it didn’t look like it’s broken but she made a mental note to put it in rice just to be safe.
Yeri soon came back with fresh clothes, offered her an empathetic smile, before immediately leaving the room. Seulgi made sure to shower thoroughly , rinsing her hair at least 5 times to make sure no soft rock, or sand, or – god forbid – worms or insects , was still there.
When she stepped out of the shower, hand busy drying her hair with a towel, Yeri was waiting with a cup of tea in hand. She offered it with no words, holding it out for her to take. Only when Seulgi took it did she say, “Are you gonna stream it tonight?”
Seulgi blew on her tea as she pondered. She already had a bad enough day, might as well get money as she crashes out. She knew she had loyal viewers who loved to donate, so she said, “Yeah, but you don’t have to.”
“Girl, you know my viewers miss my pretty face,” Yeri winked with a chuckle, “I’ll go set up and chat with my viewers. You take your time, though.”
Seulgi only acknowledged it with a hum, moving past her to go to her room. She wasted no time in fixing her set up, making sure that the mic was upright, her headphones were fully charged, and most importantly, there was no visible mess behind her desk before her stream. She then used a hairdryer to dry her hair, wanting to appear at least put-together for her stream.
The notification on Discord told her that Yeri had opened the game and started streaming. Soon after she was done drying her hair, she opened the game and joined her on the voice channel.
“There she is,” she heard Yeri say as she clicked through apps to start the stream. She typed in Seulgi crashout stream as her title for the day. Yeri must’ve seen it, because she immediately let out an amused chuckle and said, “You were serious about crashing out, huh?”
“A girl needs to vent out some… annoyance after a long day, okay?” Seulgi said, fingers moving to invite Yeri into her party. She had a Sabrina Carpenter skin, when the hell did she purchase that?
“Fair enough,” Yeri said, then she appeared to read a comment, “Wouldn’t Fortnite just add more to the problem? Hey, that’s a good point.”
Seulgi scoffed at Yeri’s comment, then winked at her audience with playful confident they seemed to love, “it won’t if you’re as good as I am.”
Yeri whistled, “Cocky, much? What do you think, chat?”
Seulgi heard the chime of comments coming in, she glanced at her second screen to read the barrage of messages coming in.
Meowdasstan: Confidence looks good on you omg.
Withyeons: OKAY? Cocky queen, we love you.
Wickedroyale: Let’s get that win.
Mikumikubeam: Girl, put on the Miku skin and manifest a Victory Royale.
Seulgi laughed at the last comment, quickly switching to her favorite Hatsune Miku skin before adjusting her stance. “Alright, let’s manifest that win.”
They did not, in fact, get any win.
They were on 5 lose-streak. Each time so close to Victory Royale, landing on number 2 the last two times.
“It’s okay, we were just warming up,” she heard Yeri said, her light tone somewhat soothing her annoyance. But Yeri wasn’t Yeri if she wasn’t giving a playful jab, “Your aim would get better soon, right, Seulgi?”
“Oh, fuck off,” Seulgi made a point of rolling her eyes on-camera just as they entered the lobby for the next game, “It’s not my fault we kept running into Kneecapper spammers during endgame. Aren’t they annoying?”
She glanced at her chat, looking for approval.
Slurpking: Skill issue lol.
Withyeons: Kneecapper spammers can’t aim for shit, they should vault it soon.
Ddockingstation: Damn what happened to not judging other people’s gameplay? 😭
Bluedive: Not into kneecappers? Noted.
Mikumikubeam donated $5 .
Mikumikubeam: It’s aite maybe Miku wasn’t your lucky charm tonight.
“Thank you for the donation mikumikubeam, let’s give Miku another try,” she said with a chuckle, they were now back on the bus ready to jump back into the game. Yeri marked an area on the map, so Seulgi adjusted her mouse to get ready. “Alright y’all, I’m about to lock in for real.”
The first half of the game ran smoothly, except for the occasional bicker over who got to keep which weapon or medallion. Seulgi had to admit, she and Yeri made a pretty good duo. They were so in sync with each other’s play style, knew when to fall back or push the enemy, it was partly why they were popular as a duo.
“Seulgi, on your left.” Yeri marked an area up the hill. Seulgi immediately sprinted to the nearest rock, they were at a disadvantage because they were on the lower ground.
“They got a medallion,” Seulgi commented, noticing the yellow circle on the map.
“Doesn’t mean they’re good,” Yeri easily quipped, almost matter-of-factly. However, she started moving to the area on the right instead of going straight to the enemy. “We just need to get a better view.”
“On it,” Seulgi said, using her Rocket Drill to fly to the hill on the right.
“I’m out of drill power. Don’t push yet!” Yeri warned, her tone laced with urgency.
“I’m just scouting,” that was a lie, she already saw the player Yeri marked earlier. They were alone, so Seulgi immediately switched to her sniper and killed them in one shot. “Easy!”
That got a crazy reaction from her chat, messages coming in at a crazy speed. There were chimes indicating donations, but she couldn’t read every single one right now.
She heard Yeri scoff, “You’re lucky there was only one of them.”
Seulgi could only laugh, it wasn’t luck. She made a calculated decision in the split second she saw the other player running for cover.
“5 left,” Yeri said, sounding serious now. “You better lock in, Seulgi. I need to win at least once tonight.”
“Girl, don’t try to make it seem like it’s my fault!” Seulgi protested, though her eyes were busy scanning the area. “I literally revived you earlier in the game”
“Shut up, I didn’t have any ammo,” Yeri grumbled, then she spotted someone. She made sure to mark it on the map. “There! A duo!”
Seulgi was quick to spot them. As if they had practiced it a million times, Seulgi and Yeri managed to dodge the barrage of bullets coming their way. They slid, they ran, they used any movement item in their loadout to the best of their advantage and were able to kill them off in the end.
There were now 3 people left, the two of them and one other person.
The storm circle had moved and gotten impossibly smaller, so they made sure to move quietly. To gain advantage, Seulgi and Yeri decided to split up so they couldn’t be killed at once. There was a building up ahead, Yeri went to the left while Seulgi went to the right side of it.
They managed to move a few meters before she heard it.
“Piece of shit!” Yeri exclaimed, just as the game showed that Yeri had been downed. Then she started defending herself, “I swear they came out of nowhere, Seulgi!”
“Where are they now?” Seulgi immediately took cover, going inside the building and running upstairs to hide and calculate her next move.
Yeri hadn’t got a chance to answer, when the game showed that she had been killed off. There was a thud, like Yeri had banged her head against her desk or something. “We’re doomed, chat.”
“Don’t be dramatic,” Seulgi said dismissively, but her hand had started to sweat. She made sure to crouch, opting on hiding under the stairs and making sure she listened to every indicator of movement. There was nothing, they were probably still searching outside.
“Are you just gonna hide here forever?” Yeri whispered, as if the other player could her them talk.
“At least until the next storm,” Seulgi said. “I’m trying to find out– FUCK!”
The other player appeared exactly in front of her, a shotgun cocked her way and it fucking blasted at her. With limited room, she couldn’t jump to avoid it, so by the second shot she died .
Seulgi stared at her screen, mind going blank as the #2 pop up on her screen. She heard it, more than she saw it, that the other player had started emoting to Mine by Madison Beer to celebrate their win.
This day couldn’t get fucking worse.
“What the fuck just happened?” Yeri said, her voice sounded quiet and breathless, evidently shocked.
Messages started flooding into her chat room, people as confused as she was.
Wujufunction: Literal jumpscare.
Withyeons: Did you just… get stream sniped?
Mikumikubeam: Wait they also killed you off on the last game.
Mikumikubeam: Watch your replay, they got Victory Royale on the last game.
Wickedroyale: Getting stream sniped is crazy.
“Stream sniping, really?” Yeri voiced out her thoughts before she could, just as incredulous. Seulgi, however, was still speechless. Her eyes were fixed on the comments still coming in.
Withyeons: You can report them, afaik.
Bluedive: Gg 💙
Bluedive: Until next time!
Bluedive donated $100.
Her jaw dropped. She physically got closer to her second screen to see if her eyes had deceived her. But no matter how she looked at it, the viewer had basically admitted to stream sniping then donated a hundred fucking dollars to her name.
Mikumikubeam: WHAT THE FUCK
Mikumikubeam: DID THEY JUST???
Meowdasstan: NO FUCKING WAYYY LMAOOO
Withyeons: So I guess you won’t be reporting them lol
Seulgi cleared her throat, blinking rapidly as if it could help shake off the shell-shocked expression on her face.
“Well, thanks bluedive,” she said, voice sounding smaller than she intended. She mentally smacked herself, deciding to sit up straighter and squaring her shoulders to appear confident, “Let’s see if you could win without stream sniping, though.”
The response came in mere seconds.
Bluedive: But where’s the fun in that?
Bluedive: You should always be on your toes.
Bluedive: Keep an eye out for me on your next games 😉
Like she said, this day couldn’t get fucking worse.
