Something soft and fragrant landed on her forehead. Her nose twitched, and in the gentle breeze, it floated on its merry way.
Until another took its place. Her nose scrunched, but she refused to open her eyes. It was joined by another, and her lips curled into a smirk at the quiet snicker beside her. “Don't you know it's rude to disturb a lady's beauty sleep?” Rouge drawled without opening her eyes.
Her companion was silent for a moment. Then, tender fingers curled around her muzzle and encouraged her head to turn. His thumb caressed the plump curve of her cheek, indulgently letting it follow the supple line of her chin to stroke her lips. “I don't think that's necessary; your beauty surpasses ethereal.”
Rouge opened her eyes to be gently flooded with warm ruby red, brightly lit with a small reverent smile, so rarely seen aside from these moments where words and smiles like that were safe for him to indulge her with.
Rouge hoped for the day her Shadow would feel safe in any setting, but for now, this was more than enough. She took one of the flowers, a vibrant red tulip, and twirled it gently between her fingers. “If I'm ethereal,” She announced, tucking the tulip behind his ear and allowing her fingers to reciprocate the slow caress down his face. He closed his eyes and leaned into her hand. “Then you are priceless.”
Shadow opened his eyes, the tenderness and adoration melting her heart into a puddle, and he rolled to hover over her on their picnic blanket, the gentle wind traversing through the meadow gently ruffling his shiny black fur. The tulip, surprisingly, remained behind his ear. Some would see it and laugh, the Ultimate Lifeform with a flower in his fur, but Rouge's breath caught… He'd never been more breathtaking.
Shadow chuckled, and before she could be embarrassed about that slip of tongue, he leaned down, and she melted even further under his sweet and tender kiss. She felt more petals drop around and on her, and she giggled. When laughter and teasing broke their kiss, their smiles rivaled the beauty of the flowers around them.
