When she heard the window open Steph knew what she was going into. And she really didn't have the energy to.
"Go away, Batman."
"Not Batman," said a known voice. In the semi darkness of Gotham night, she could see the all black costume of Batgirl.
"Why are you here?" she asked. Dealing with Cass was more pleasant than dealing with Bruce any day of the week, but right now she didn't want to deal with anyone. She just wanted to lay in her misery until tomorrow.
"You didn't come on patrol. I was worried."
"Yeah? Well, I'm alive, I'll be on patrol tomorrow." She was harsh. She knew it. But she just wanted to be alone.
"You look unwell." Cass remarqued. So, she wouldn't just leave. "Stabbed?" She asked looking pointedly at Steph's stomach.
"No, I'm not..." Steph winced when she moved, aggravating her back. "Different kind of bleeding."
"Oh." Despite the mask, she could see understanding drawing on Cass's face. And then, she blinked, and Batgirl was gone. Great. She had the answer to her question, and she left.
Steph turned around, trying not to feel bitter. She wanted to be alone; she wanted Cass gone. Her brain had no business making her feel this hurt and betrayed.
But, while she was fighting the pressure behind her eyes, the window opened again.
"What now?" She barked and Batgirl was there again, with not one but two refrigerated bags.
"Why two?" Steph asked, blinking.
"One hot, one cold," Cass answered as she opened a bag to toss the content to Steph. It was a rhinoceros plushie that had been filled with rice or cherry seeds to turn it into a heat pack.
"Is that...?"
"Barbara gave it to me. It's handmade. Use it."
Now that she was looking at it, the rhino was showing some irregularities, showing how it was made. With love.
"I don't... this is yours." It was made by Barbara for Cass. Not for her.
"Use it," Cass repeated and it was non-negotiable.
Steph didn't fight her much, and put the heat pack below the covers, against her belly.
Cass then sat down and opened the second bag.
"Ice cream helps," she explained getting a big tub of banana ice cream and two spoons.
Steph took a spoon. She looked at the tub, slowly moving her hand around it. To be honest, she wasn't sure how much she could eat, still feeling slightly nauseous.
But then, Cass removed her cowl, looked at her and smiled, and Steph, clutching the homemade rhino in her guts, already felt a bit better.
