Obliviously Yours

Summary:

“Will you make me miso soup every morning for the rest of our lives?” Isagi asked one afternoon, as casually as if he were asking for the time.

“Sure.” Rin answered, not knowing it was a marriage proposal.

A.K.A Rin sabotage a wedding, only to realise it’s his own.

Work Text:

Itoshi Rin prided himself on being sharp, disciplined, and someone who didn’t let anything catch him off guard. But apparently, even he had his moments of absolute, undeniable stupidity.

It all started with one of Isagi’s infamous random questions.

“Will you make me miso soup every morning for the rest of our lives?” Isagi asked one afternoon, as casually as if he were asking for the time.

Rin, who had been mid-rep at the gym, grunted.

“Sure.” He barely registered the question, too preoccupied with his workout to analyze the words. He assumed it was one of Isagi’s weird jokes.

Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.

The next day, Rin’s world tilted on its axis.

Standing in the middle of the field like some kind of victorious soccer star, Isagi declared, “I’m going to be an Itoshi!”

Rin, sitting among the players, blinked. Then he blinked again.

“Wait… what?” he mumbled, his eyes darting toward Sae, who stood across the benches, looking as composed and smug, as  ever. No way. He means… he’s marrying Sae?

And, of course, Sae, being the absolute bitch he always was, had the audacity to wink at him.

Rin’s stomach twisted in a way he didn’t like.

Before he could confront Isagi about this sudden engagement, or question why he hadn’t heard about it before, Isagi vanished, leaving the arena. Rin was left alone, grappling with his emotions and being swarmed by a flood of “congratulations.”

“Congrats, Rin! Never thought YOU  would get Isagi Yoichi!”

“Lukewarm, what are you talking about?” Rin muttered.

“Don’t be shy. It makes us want to beat you up for being this lucky. But congratulations, I guess.”

Confused and annoyed, Rin brushed them off, only to be ambushed by Sae later that day.

“Best man?” Sae asked, his tone calm, his expression unreadable.

Rin’s teeth clenched. Wasn’t it bad enough that Isagi had chosen him ? Now he had to help organize this wedding? Still, his pride wouldn’t let him refuse outright.

“…Fine,” Rin grumbled. “If it makes you happy.”

He didn’t know what hurt more: Sae’s apparent victory or the fact that Isagi hadn’t even told him directly.

Over the next few weeks, Rin’s life descended into madness. For some reason, he never checked his texts or social media. He didn’t want to see any more updates about Isagi’s wedding.

And yet, for some reason, Isagi dragged him into all the wedding planning. Rin was forced to look at floral arrangements, cake designs, and venue options while Isagi badgered him with questions like, “What’s your favorite food?” and “What’s your ideal color scheme?”

“What about Sae?” Rin snapped one day, glaring at the shorter man. “Shouldn’t you be asking him these things?”

“He’s busy,” Isagi replied with an easy smile.

Rin gritted his teeth. Of course. Sae was too important, too perfect to bother with trivial things like planning his own wedding.

It got worse.

One fateful afternoon, Isagi dragged Rin to a boutique.

“Why am I here?” Rin grumbled as Isagi handed him a tuxedo.

“You need to try this on,” Isagi said, shoving him into a dressing room.

“Why can’t Sae do it?”

“He’s not here. Just do it.”

Rin begrudgingly complied, glaring at his reflection in the mirror. The tuxedo fit perfectly, but it was the principle of the thing.

He stomped out of the dressing room. “Happy now?”

Isagi tilted his head, studying Rin with a look that made his stomach flip in a way he didn’t want to examine. “Yeah. You look great.”

Rin’s face burned. He blurted out, “Actually, Sae would love this tuxedo covered in glitter.”

Isagi raised a brow, clearly suspicious. “Sae would like that?”

“Yes,” Rin said, doubling down. “Just… change it.”

Isagi had some doubts, so he asked, “Are you actually ready for the wedding?”

Rin rolled his eyes. “Yeah, totally. I mean, I’m ready for whatever Sae decides because it’s really his thing… even though he’s not even here right now. He’ll like it, though, right?” Rin said with confidence, as if he hadn’t actively sabotaged the wedding suits.

But then, to Isagi, it was believable. Rin had a reputation for being extremely family-oriented, thanks to his constant yapping about Itoshi Sae.

“If Sae likes it, then okay.”

Despite his annoyance, Rin threw himself into wedding planning with the kind of intensity usually reserved for soccer matches.

If Sae and Isagi were going to be happy together, Rin decided he’d at least make it miserable for Sae. He sabotaged every decision like picking oily food that Sae hated, choosing a bright, obnoxious color scheme, and insisting on loud, chaotic music. He even demanded the release of owls instead of doves because “they’re more interesting.”

Then there was the wedding invitation card. Don’t even get him started. He deliberately chose the ugliest color and font combination imaginable—Comic Sans in green, like a fart. And yet, for some reason, he couldn’t bring himself to read past the word “Itoshi” without feeling nauseous.

Also, since Isagi liked soccer so much, Rin made it a heavily football-themed wedding. Isagi vibed with it, though their parents were worried.

But no matter how much chaos Rin introduced, Isagi remained unfazed.

“You’re really good at this,” Isagi said one day, grinning.

“Shut up,” Rin muttered. But secretly, he felt pleased. Isagi relied on him, trusted him more than Sae. It was stupid, but it made him feel… special.

Still, something nagged at Rin. As the weeks passed, he found himself thinking less about sabotaging the wedding and more about why this whole thing bothered him so much.

Why Sae?

Why not me?

The wedding day arrived like a storm, and Rin was in the eye of it. Everyone criticized the soccer-themed wedding (“Is this a wedding or a Blue Lock exhibition?”), the rainbow-colored balloons, and the tacky invitations. Even the main dish was raw octopus and french fries. Bachira Meguru was the flower boy. Everything was ruined, but Rin felt smug.

And yet, there he was, standing at the altar, dressed to perfection in his ridiculous glitter tuxedo. Sae, of course, stood next to him looking flawless in a much better tuxedo. Rin clenched his jaw, seething at the second-hand embarrassment of it all.

The officiant began to speak, but Rin didn’t hear a word. His mind was racing, a storm of emotions he couldn’t name.

Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore.

“OBJECTION!” Rin shouted, his voice cutting through the ceremony like a knife.

Gasps erupted from the crowd. All eyes turned to him.

“You shouldn’t be with my lukewarm brother!” Rin shouted, his chest heaving. “You should be with me! Cancel the wedding and marry me instead! Or I’ll kill everyone here and turn this into a battlefield!”

Chaos broke out. Guests whispered in shock. Some booed him. Even Isagi’s ex, Michael Kaiser, appeared out of nowhere to throw tomatoes at him. Sae groaned, muttering something about “attention-seeking idiot brothers.”

Isagi, meanwhile, strode toward Rin with an expression caught between exasperation and amusement.

“Rin,” he said, his tone calm despite the chaos.

“What?” Rin snapped, his face red with embarrassment and fury.

Isagi sighed, grabbing Rin’s wrist. “Stop making a scene. You are the groom.”

Rin blinked. “What are you talking about?”

“Look.” Isagi gestured behind them.

Rin turned. His jaw dropped.

There, hanging above the altar, was a banner that read: “CONGRATULATIONS, ISAGI YOICHI & ITOSHI RIN!”

Rin stared at it, his mind blank. He replayed the past few weeks in his head, every conversation, every tuxedo fitting, every question about his favorite food and colors.

“You idiot,” Rin muttered, his face burning.

“You said yes, remember?” Isagi teased, smirking. “Now, come on. Everyone’s waiting.”

Rin allowed himself to be pulled to the altar, his mind still reeling. His mouth gaped open. He muttered something under his breath about “lukewarm miso soup,” but deep down, he couldn’t stop drooling.

For once, Rin didn’t mind being oblivious, so long as it meant being with Isagi.
