Mira stood in front of the table, everyone else sitting at it as she had asked them to. She took in a deep breath and prepared herself for what she was going to say. It was long overdue to actually say this to everyone. She had gotten sidetracked along the way.
She looked everyone over for a moment. There was little to read from their expressions for the most part. No one was too concerned or really interested in this conversation she wanted to have. That would surely change once she actually started talking, though.
"Everyone, I want to say something." Mira stated. "I had been meaning to tell you all this but kind of forgot to and then we got really busy. Anyway, I wanted to say that I'm trans. A trans woman. Just thought I should share that since we're all close friends."
There was a moment of silence. Mira waited patiently for whatever anyone wanted to say next. She was expected some questions to pop up. Surely there were things they were curious about.
"We've known." Taiya finally broke the silence.
Mira stared at him for a moment. "What?"
"Yeah. We all kind of pieced that together a while ago."
Mira pouted and crossed her arms. "You should've said something then! I planned this whole thing and you all knew this entire time. You ruined the surprise."
"Sorry."
"It wasn't like you were exactly hiding it, though." Ishiro pointed out. "Did you really expect someone not to catch on at some point?"
"No one else ever has." Mira defended. "I've always acted this way and no one has ever said anything before. How come you guys figured it out?"
"Guess we're just more perceptive than others." Genba hummed.
"So... no one has any questions about this?" Mira said. "I was so ready to have this big Q&A thing and now..."
"I think we can still do that." Taiya said. "How about this? When did you first realize?"
Mira perked up slightly at the fact they were going to still ask her questions. All this preparation had not been for nothing then. At least some part of this still fell through the way she wanted it to.
"I was probably maybe 12 or so. Started going through the beginnings of puberty and it sucked." Mira said. "Had to wait till I was an adult to really make any changes though. My parents were afraid I'd get bullied too much if they let me be myself."
"Do you resent them for that?" Sakito questioned.
Mira shook her head. "They were just trying to protect me. They apologized for not letting me be myself a while ago. I've forgiven them for it."
"Do many other people know you're trans?" Jou asked.
"No. I've not really told that many people all things considered. People I consider friends I do eventually try to tell but I don't have that many consistent friends for me to do that with."
No one else said anything more for questions. Mira was a little disappointed. She had wanted more.
"Well." Genba stood up. "I think we should have a party for you. An official coming out party."
"Eh?" Mira said.
"That sounds like a fun idea." Taiya agreed.
"Let's do it!" Jou nodded.
"Guys..." Mira smiled.
Maybe this way wasn't so bad after all.
