"Siuan," Moiraine said, nudging her gently, "Are you all right, love?"
Siuan stilled her movements in the bed, sighing. "I suppose," she said, flipping over to face Moiraine.
"You don't think I'm a lovesick puppy, do you?"
The room was dark, but there was enough moonlight for Siuan to see Moiraine's brow furrow a little. She leaned in and kissed the lines away, placing a hand on her cheek.
"It's just that Elaida saw us earlier today. And she called me a lovesick puppy later during class, when you were helping one of the Accepted. And to give up on you."
"Seriously?"
Siuan nodded. "Do you think I'm too much, Moiraine?"
Moiraine snorted. "That has to be the stupidest thing anyone's ever said," she said.
"So I am?"
Moiraine snorted again. "Goodness, no," she said. "I meant Elaida, of course. Whoever heard of telling someone to give up on someone else, just because they happened to behaving as how she put it- a lovesick puppy?"
She reached for Siuan's hand and took it, running her thumb along her knuckles. Siuan felt herself relax a little.
"That's what she told me," she said. "Moiraine, if you think I'm too much, you can tell me."
Moiraine instantly wrapped both her arms around Siuan, squeezing her.
"She's just jealous," she said. "Because of how cute we are. And because I have you, and she doesn't."
Siuan let out a little laugh. "I thought she'd be jealous that she couldn't have you. The pretty little porcelain doll."
"And what is the pretty little porcelain doll compared to the daughter of the river?"
Siuan buried her face in Moiraine's neck.
"I love you," she said, into Moiraine's hair. "My pufferfish."
Moiraine ran her fingers through Siuan's curls, smoothing her hair gently.
"She might've called you a lovesick puppy," she said, "But you're my lovesick puppy. Not hers. Mine."
Siuan breathed in deeply. Moiraine smelled like roses, but not the awful powdered kind that Elaida used. A softer, sweeter kind, that was Moiraine.
"Yours," she said, kissing the spot beneath Moiraine's ear, and shifting to peck her cheek.
Moiraine shuddered a little, letting out a laugh. "Ticklish," she said, patting Siuan's head gently. "We'll get her back tomorrow, hmm? Sneezing powder, maybe. No one is allowed to be mean to you and get away with it."
"Can we put it in that powdered rose she uses?"
Moiraine kissed the top of Siuan's head. "I was going to suggest the same thing."
Siuan relaxed into Moiraine. "Thank you."
Moiraine smiled, reaching for the covers, pulling them up and tucking both of them in securely. "Of course," she said. "I'll have her know that I only have interest in one person. And we'll let her know that person is you, and only you."
