Work Text:
On the afternoon of the day they were raised to the Shawl, Moiraine and Siuan stood in front of each other in Siuan's- no, one of their new bedrooms in the Blue Ajah quarters, examining themselves in a full-length mirror positioned against the wall. Despite the fact they'd been their for less than a day, the room was filled with fishing related items; little carvings of fish, fish hooks and several fishing nets, some already hanging on the walls.
"These look ridiculous," Siuan complained, adjusting the shawl which lay over her shoulders, before repositoning it to its former position again. "How do these sisters always make them look so graceful? It always feels like it's going to fall off at any time."
Moiraine hummed a little, adjusting her own shawl. "It feels way too long," she said. "But it looks fine here. Isn't it strange? Where do they even get all these things? Do they have a whole closet of them stashed somewhere?"
Siuan shook her head and laughed. She went up behind Moiraine, fiddling with her shawl a little before placing her hands on her shoulders and pressing a kiss to the silky dark crown of her head.
"You look cute," she said. running her fingers through Moiraine's hair. "So cute. And I think the shawl suits you perfectly. Though they're absolutely ridiculous, aren't they?"
Moiraine laughed, turning briefly to kiss Siuan before looking back at the mirror.
"Ridiculous on me," she said. "Regal and fancy and beautiful on you."
Siuan smiled fondly, continuing to stroke Moiraine's hair. Her porcelain cheeks were flushed and her sapphire-blue eyes were sparkling. Breathtakingly beautiful.
"You're perfect," she said softly, placing both arms around Moiraine from behind and squeezing her. "My Moiraine."
Moiraine relaxed into Siuan, nuzzling her gently. "That means you're perfect too."
Siuan placed another kiss on Moiraine's head, before releasing her. "No way," she said, readjusting her shawl for what felt like the millionth time. Light, what was with these things? She'd barely moved at all, but it had started slipping on one shoulder. "They look like cloaks, almost. But way too short. Do you think all the Aes Sedai who got raised before us felt like this too?"
Moiraine turned to Siuan, and this time it was her turn to adjust her shawl for her. Moiraine's brow knitted in concentration, her small hands brushing against her with the most loving touch.
"There we go," she said, smiling up at Siuan. "I know what you're thinking, but you don't look bad at all. Don't give me that look, you little silverpike. You know you look good."
Siuan tried to pout at her a little longer, but she could only hold it for another second before she broke into a smile. She still couldn't see why Moiraine thought she looked good, but the sight of Moiraine always made her smile anyway.
"Damn you," she said, laughing. "You can't get away with that every time."
Moiraine simply laughed, taking both of Siuan's hands in hers. "Of course I can," she said. "Just like how you can always get away with calling me a pufferfish."
Siuan brought Moiraine's hands up to her lips and kissed the backs of them, before leaning down to kiss her forehead and tuck strands of hair behind her ears.
"Still looks ridiculous," she said, "But at least we can match. Even though every other sister in the Tower has a shawl."
Moiraine twirled around once, watching herself in the mirror. "They're good for twirling, though," she said, watching the blue fabric fan around her, before it settled on her shoulders again. "Not that Aes Sedai do a lot of dancing or twirling. But it really is cool."
Siuan watched her, amused. "Wait until the other sisters see," she said. "They all think you're intimidating. But then they'll change their mind once they see you being all cute."
Instead of answering, Moiraine twirled around again, then again, before swaying a little and grabbing at Siuan, giggling. Siuan wrapped her arms around her, holding her close.
"Got a bit dizzy," Moiraine laughed, leaning up to peck Siuan's lips and pulling away, but not before taking both of Siuan's hands in hers, twirling the two of them around. Moiraine was right. It wasn't as though Aes Sedai did a lot of dancing, but the effect the shawls had was pretty.
"You're right," she said, smiling at Moiraine. Her love looked so happy, her smile lighting up her eyes and brightening her entire face. Siuan remembered them doing something similar to this years ago when they'd been novices, only that time they'd been twirling in the gardens, clad in white, collapsing in a heap of giggles and kissing until they were breathless.
Moiraine laughed and twirled them around again, wrapping her arms around Siuan's waist and staring up at her with a big goofy grin.
"Not too bad, really," she said, squeezing her gently. "Might take some getting used to. But at least we're both together, hmm? Speaking of, let's sleep in your bed tonight. Mine's absolutely full of lace, and it's awful."
Personally, Siuan thought that sleeping in a sea of froth wouldn't be too bad, but since it was Moiraine asking, she agreed. It was nicer to share a bed with her wife, anyway.
"Sounds perfect," she said, leaning in to kiss Moiraine before taking her hand. "Anything for my little pufferfish."
