    Natalie stood up without warning, slinging her backpack over one shoulder.

    Lottie blinked. “Where are you going?”

    “I’ve been here enough times to know when to sneak out and when to sneak back,” she said, already halfway to the door. “Or did you think I just sat here like a motherfucker for three hours?”

    Lottie hesitated. Her hands clutched her notebook tighter. She glanced at the teacher, who was full-on snoring now. Then back at Natalie, who looked like she couldn’t care less what happened next.

    “You coming or what?”
