Chapter Text
It’s been so long since Neil last saw the boys in Wellton.
He continued to write the letters, with a smile on his face, remembering all the good moments he had with them, specially with one of them.
He decided to write a letter instead of just send the invitation of his wedding, and he was hoping that they could attend to the wedding.
Neil put the letters by the side of the empty paper in front of him, there was only one person left to write the letter to and he couldn’t help but smile when he realized who was.
Todd Anderson.
That name sounded so familiar to him even after all these years, still feel like they were just boys sneaking out to the wood to read poetry and lay on the grass in front of the lake, where Todd used to write his poetries while Neil provoked him saying that the lakes were the place the poets went to die.
He wondered what had happened to Todd, if he was okay, what he was working with, if he got married like Neil would in a few weeks.
Sometimes he found himself wondering what would have happened, what it would have been like if he and Todd had gotten together, if he had confessed his feelings every chance he got, and if Todd would have returned the feeling.
When Neil thought about it, he felt guilty, it wasn't fair to his fiancée, but sometimes, deep down, he had the feeling that Emma understood him well, deep down she knew that her fiancé thinks a lot about the "what ifs" that could have happened if he had made different decisions.
He finished write the letters and put them all together in the corner of his table, it would be the first thing he would do tomorrow morning, send the letter to his old friends.
Emma was already sleeping so he tried not to make any noise while he get up and sit on the bed to join her, when he finally lay down, he took a slowly and quietly deep breath while observing her sleeping.
She was really a beautiful woman, Neil thought. They fall in love when Neil was in college, she was one of the first persons to talk to him, and immediately they felt a connection with each other and Emma became part of his life in a way he wouldn’t imagine will go that far.
It was in the middle of winter when Neil realized he was in love with her. And luckily she felt the same.
And now, he was about to marry her, and he was truly happy, but why his brain insisted on bringing back thoughts about Todd? Why specifically now, that he was happy with the woman of his dreams?
Maybe it was just the feeling of missing Todd that was beating hard now.
Maybe he was anxious to see Todd’s answer about being invited to Neil’s wedding.
Maybe, deep down, Neil still feels like that teenage boy who was secretly in love with his best friend.
