Chapter Text
Nancy Reagan High School, the perfect ground where friends turn on each other, and girls make other girls feel bad about themselves. That was the way Parker Needler, Wednesday’s friend, had described school to her once. The portrayal of these communal educational institutions had sparked intrigue in the young raven. Very much so that it resulted in the Addams enrolling both of their children at the behest of their eldest child; and boy, did these schools live up to their description.
Both of the Addams siblings were considered freaks among their peers, Pugsley for his fascination with explosives, Wednesday for her love for the macabre and intense but twisted side. This environment brought chaos and conflict, but the young siblings enjoyed school for the most part.
Parker: Hey, me and the twins are already at the cafeteria. We saved you a seat.
The young goth smiled as she read the text, she typed up a quick reply in acknowledgment and pocketed the phone in her skirt’s pocket. Walking down further through the school’s hallways packed with students, it was never a problem how crowded a room would be, people would always rapidly disperse to the sides whenever Wednesday approached. It never failed to amuse her.
Bang, bang, bang
Behind the door of one of the many lockers, muffled cries and pleas for help could be heard. Upon recognizing that it was her brother’s locker, the raven picked up her pace towards it. She easily pried it open, revealing the distraught younger Addams; he fell forwards, unable to do anything to soften his fall as he was completely bound, with an apple adorned on his lips as the final touch of this tasteless prank.
“My dearest Pugsley, are you alright?” Wednesday gently removed the apple from the boy’s mouth.
“I.. I am now. Thank you Wednesday.” Pugsley wheezed, as he tried to take in fresh air.
The relief in the girl’s face drained to make way for the new surfacing emotion, wrath. “I want names.”
“Don’t know who they were. Honest.” He sobbed. “It happened so fast.”
The raven sighed, her cold glare softening for a moment as she proceeded to untie the boy. “Cravens. Picking on you just because of your soft nature, I’d like to see them try that on someone who’d gladly put them in their place.” Wednesday muttered under her breath, her jaw clenching. With the last of the knots undone, the rope slid to the sides, allowing the girl to grab a hold of her brother’s hand.
Suddenly she arched backwards, eyes wide, her grip on Pugsley’s hand, tightening. Flashes of his tormentors could be seen. Spinning and spinning the boy around like a top and shoving an apple onto his mouth as ridicules from all sides echoed throughout the hallway. The last sight being of the cruel bullies closing the door on him, with the darkness engulfing the defenseless boy as the vision came to an end. Gasping for air now that she was brought back to the present, the raven stared at her sibling wide eyed, trying to get a hold of herself.
“You okay?”
I’m not about to confess to my dear brother that I’ve recently been plagued by visions. She thought. That would just worry him. Besides, they come on without warning.
Wednesday rises to her feet and smooths down her skirt. “Leave this to me,” she says, hesitating for a brief second to touch again out of fear of triggering another vision, but regardless decides to extend her hand for her brother to take. He takes it and stands on his feet, a little shaken up still. Her original destination now forgotten, the need for vengeance now her primary goal, the goth changes direction.
“Wednesday?” Pugsley calls for his sister, “What are you gonna do?”
The older sibling turns to look at him, she was smiling ear to ear, yet behind her dark brown eyes, a seething rage was swirling. “Why, I will be doing what I do best, dear brother.” With that, she skipped towards the school’s gym and pool area.
⚰✝
Splashes and laughter could be heard further down the corridor to the pool area.
Perfect. The raven mused to herself as she approached her objective. All of Pugsley’s assailants in one place.
“Yo Dalton, look!” A boy pointed, “Pigsley’s sister.”
Wednesday, with both hands behind her back, stopped right at the edge of the pool.
“Hey freak,” Dalton, leader of this band of pathetic brutes sneers, “this is a closed practice.”
A Cheshire Cat smile forms on the raven’s lips, a manic twinkle in her eyes. Both arms rise to reveal the oh so pleasantly dark surprise she has brought along with her. Two large bags, full of ravenous piranhas begging to be released.
Dalton’s smirk fell, his brain desperately trying to warn him to turn around and swim away immediately.
“Al meterse con mi queridó hermanito, invocaste una terrible irá de la que no vas a poder escapar intactamente.” The goth’s shoulders shook slightly due to the beautiful yet sadistic mirth spilling from within her. She drops the bags as they fall inside with a splash; murderous and hungry, the piranhas swim wildly towards their prey.
“Oh- oh my god!” Finally, he turns to swim away, majority of his peers already making their way out onto solid ground. Dalton was a good swimmer, he was head of the team, but pitted against starving carnivorous fish, well, he didn’t stand a chance. He was almost out, his hand had reached the ladder at the edge of the pool, but it was too late. The piranhas were on him. The once clear blue water now mixing with an ugly crimson. The screams were like music to Wednesday’s ears, she swayed to it as she hummed to herself.
What a beautiful sight this is, she sighed dreamily.
Revenge can be oh so intoxicatingly sweet.
⚰✝
“Wednesday dear,” Morticia calls out for her daughter. The girl had been completely focused on her phone, reading the text her friends had sent to her.
Parker: It sucks that they had to kick you out for this..
Layla: yea, all you did was stand up for your brother 😔
Kayla: dalton deserved it tbh 😒
Parker: We’re gonna miss you.
“Have you been listening at all?” Finally the girl gazes upwards, a hint of sadness reflecting behind those eyes.
“Forgive me mother, I spaced out for a moment there.” She replied, pocketing the cellular device.
Her mother, ever so doting, smiled at her sincerely, “I know you must be feeling a little lost from all this, having been expelled from your school, leaving your friends behind. It will take some time to get used to new surroundings and forge new bonds, but I promise you will come to love your new school. You’ll find it as life-changing as I did.”
“Thank you mother,” the raven allowed herself a brief smile before her brows furrowed slightly, “it’s just-” she trailed off.
“What’s the matter?” Morticia leaned forward, gently cupping her daughter’s chin.
Wednesday can easily adapt to new environments, but the girl would be lying to herself if she didn’t acknowledge the tiny sliver of self doubt that lingered deep inside. It’s easy to start from zero, it should be, but she didn’t want to. Not being able to experience the rest of these adolescent years with her friends and brother gnawed at her. What’s more, she wouldn’t be there to defend Pugsley anymore either. Does that make him a bigger target now that she won’t be by his side? Has her impulsiveness doomed him..?
Perhaps… it may have been a little too much. The goth considered for a moment before something deep within her discarded that train of thought completely. No, they messed with Pugsley. No one messes with my family. I’ll gladly burn down the world if it was for them. What happened to Dalton should grant my brother immunity for the rest of his school years. And if someone is moronic enough to target him, well, I’ll find them eventually. Distance will never be a problem. She quietly exhaled, silently agreeing with the loud whisper of reason. She did what was right. Her blood boiling seized as Wednesday blinked a few times before she returned her mother’s gaze, “It’s nothing, pay me no mind.”
“Whoa, is that Wednesday’s new school?” Pugsley asked, his voice filling with awe.
Everyone but Lurch fixed their gaze onto the new school campus coming into sight. The whole structure and architectural display was something to truly marvel at, a very gothic design. The gargoyles a nice touch all around too. This was it, her new school. Her new way of life started here.
“Welcome to Nevermore Academy, my little deathtrap!” Her father exclaimed. “Oh, Cara Mia!” Gomez sighed, glancing at his beloved wife, taking her hand and showering it with sweet kisses. “Seeing this place, being here with you, it makes me feel like a young boy again!”
“Mon Cherie~ ,” Morticia cooed.
⚰✝
“I must say, it’s so good to see you again after all these years, Morticia.” Principle Weems smiled. She was a very elegant looking woman, platinum blonde hair, red lipstick, white dress topped off with a trench coat, and dazzling blue eyes.
“Yes,” Morticia straighten her posture in the chair, “it’s been far too long, Larissa.”
“So, this is Wednesday?” Weems turned her attention towards the Addams girl. “It’s certainly.. a very unique name. Was that perhaps the day you were born?”
“Actually ma’am, I was born on a Friday. The thirteenth no less.” The raven beamed.
“Her name comes from a line from my favorite nursery rhyme,” the elder Addams’s lips curved upwards, “Wednesday’s child is full of woe.”
“Of course, you always did have a unique perspective on the world, Morticia.” The taller woman laughed softly, nodding her head slightly. “Now,” she cleared her throat, “usually, Nevermore doesn’t accept students mid-term. But given Wednesday’s perfect grades and your family’s long history with the school, I’ve spoken with the board and we’ve made an exception.”
Gomez and Morticia heaved a small sigh of relief upon hearing the news. “There will be material you are required to catch up on. I will send over Ms. Thornhill to your dorm later this night with the materials and books you’ll be needing. You will be assigned to your mother’s old dorm. Ophelia Hall.”
Morticia chuckled excitedly as she glanced at her daughter, no doubt more memories of her youth flashing before her eyes.
“Ophelia?” The goth perked up at the name, “The one who killed herself when she was driven mad when her beloved father was murdered and betrayed by her lover.” She breathily sighed, with a faraway look on her features. “What a way to go. That place will be perfect for me.”
Weems cleared her throat once again, trying to pivot the conversation away from any more morbid topics, “Yes well, why don’t we all head there now.”
⚰✝
Her new home resided at the very top of the building, various stairs having been taken to get there. Principal Weems stopped in front of the door, turning, she smiled at her guests before resting her gaze on the goth, “This here is your new room, Ms. Addams.” She grimaced before continuing, “If it were possible, we would have accommodated you elsewhere, but no other rooms are currently available.”
“Oh that’s alright,” the raven began, “I’m not that picky in where I stay.”
“Yes, while that is good to hear, that is not why I’m saying this,” Ms. Weems clarified. “You see..." she struggled on how to word it properly, as if trying not to offend someone.
“You will be rooming with another student here. Her name is Enid Sinclair. She can be a little territorial with her personal space, so if you please, just keep to your side of the room. I will of course, keep a lookout for any future open spaces in other dorms, should the arrangement prove to not work out. But for the moment, this will have to do.”
With that, she opened the door to allow them all in. The room was surprisingly spacious, a giant circular window beautifully displayed right in the centered view of the room. A side of the room was vacant, devoid of any sign of ownership. The left side of the room however, was decorated in band groups and old movie posters. The desk was filled with books, both from school and outside sources. The bed, draped in a dark quilt with dozens of pillows strewn about. There, sitting in the center of it, was a girl about Wednesday’s age. She had short blonde hair, the tips of it dipped with blue and pink streaks, her eyes a piercingly breath taking blue. Her uniform, the default school color, indigo. The girl was growling lowly, annoyed with the unwanted visitors.
“Wednesday, this is Enid.” Weems addressed, “Enid, this is Wednesday. Your new roommate.”
“Hello,” The raven greeted politely.
The young werewolf rolled her eyes, returning to the book she was reading before she was rudely intruded upon. The growling lessened, if only a little.
“Why don’t we move on,” Ms. Weems jumped in again to kickstart the conversation, “Ms. Addams, you can go ahead and have a look around the school grounds to familiarize yourself with your new environment. I have appointed a student to show you around, she is waiting for you.”
⚰✝
“So, rumor has it that you got sent here because you almost killed a boy at your old school?” Yoko Tanaka, the queen of gossip, a dark haired beauty wearing matching dark tinted sunglasses, probed the goth for answers while they both walked. With their tour almost coming to an end, the pair ascended up the several steps to Wednesday’s new room.
“Two boys, but who’s counting?” The shorter raven stated.
“Damn.” Yoko was taken aback a bit at how nonchalantly the girl admitted to it. “To tell you the truth, I was a little worried when you told me who you were assigned to as roommates, but I think you’ll be just fine.” She laughed, her fangs poking out slightly.
Wednesday hummed in acknowledgment, her steps a bit more bouncy compared to the taller girl. “Even if she is as dangerous as you all seem to make her be, I can handle it. Danger is exhilarating.” The curves of her lips turned upwards.
She’s… a bit weird, the vampire contemplated, but there’s a certain charm to her I guess.
“Well,” Yoko slowed her steps, allowing Wednesday to take a few steps ahead of her before the smaller girl came to a stop as well, “that concludes our tour. I’ll leave you to unpack your things. Settle down and everything. See you tomorrow lil’ witchling, don’t be a stranger yeah?”
“Thank you for the tour, Yoko. See you tomorrow.” She waved until the vampire was out of sight.
When Wednesday opened the door to step inside, Enid was at the far edge of the center of the room. Duct tape in her hands as she finished placing the last piece of tape down, separating both sides officially now. “My, you certainly didn’t waste time with that.” The raven smiled as she closed the door behind her, making her way towards her own side of the room.
“Kinda pointless to comment on it don’t you think? Weems told you earlier.” The werewolf replied, already carelessly tossing the tape to her desk. She sat on her bed, ready to pick up her book again.
“Ah,” the penny had dropped, “perks of being a werewolf,” she deduced, nodding in acknowledgment. “They possess terrific hearing abilities. I thought it strange the way Weems’s words tip-toed around when she mentioned you.”
“Whatever.” Enid’s tone was curt, “Just, stay out of my way. Don’t bother me. And you might live to see this semester through.”
Oh?
“Very Viper of you…” Wednesday whispers in awe, brown eyes drowning with adoration as the pleasant similarities dawn on her.
“What?”
Oh, this is..
The seer skipped on over playfully, skidding to a soft stop right on top of enemy lines. She leans forward, laughter bubbly, eyeing the glaring girl.
“Don’t.” Enid growls, rising from her bed as she stalks on over to confront the now permanent intruder. “I’ll claw out your eyes if you take another step.”
“My, flirting with me now are you, Sinclair? You are giving me mixed signals.” The goth tilts her head to the side, a small smirk gracing her lips.
What the hell is with this girl? The growling grew louder, nails now fully extended for Wednesday to see.
Perfect. Devastatingly beautiful.
“I have a feeling you and I will get along like a house on fire, Enid.” Her smirk dropped for a more genuine infectious smile, dimples on full display.
And I already feel like I’m burning. Wednesday pondered to herself for a moment before correcting the thought. Although, that could very well just be the intense werewolf heat that’s radiating off of her.
Right..?
