Work Text:
The cult.
It had its pros and cons, a con being .. chores. Sure, the word “chores”, doesn’t sound bad, but it’s not like cleaning your room or sweeping the floors.
Every week, a group of members was assigned a list of jobs, horrifying jobs nobody of the outside world had ever even thought of. Chores included stuff like sacrificing someone at volunteer, or as simple as just.. Burying failed sacrifices.
Sure, the cult had to have been used to it to say the least, but it’s still rather unpleasant.

Skimming down the chore list, Azure and Two Time looked at each other and sighed.
“You think anyones ever tried to NOT do them?” Azure mutters to Two Time
“I hope not.” Two Time replies, disgusted at such a foolish remark.
“It’s not like.. They’d kick us out or sacrifice us or anything, we’re the most faithful members here!”
Two Time thinks for a moment.
“No, are you stupid? We’d totally get caught!” Two Time chuckles.
“C’mon, do you really wanna do chores AGAIN? You know they put us on double duty because the last group .. what even happened to the last group?”
“I don’t wanna know.” Two Time answered honestly.
“It’s not fair Two Time, we have to WORK EXTRA. Is that our reward for being faithful? I truly believe it should be the opposite!”
“What’s fair isn’t always right Azure, if so, we might’ve been dead by now.”
“How so?”
“Think of everyone we’ve sacrificed, everyone we’ve hurt, with or without will. If karma came to us, we’d be sacrificed or hurt, and you know karma's fair.”
Azure rolled his eyes, trying to think up a clever response to Two Times wisdom.
“Please?” Azure tried their best to persuade Two Time.
“...”
Azure threw Two Time his best smile.
“Okay, but if we get caught, you have to take the blame.”
“Deal.” Azure held back their excitement.
Azure immediately took Two Times hand in his, leading them to a small closet filled with dust and webs.
“In here!”
Two Time hesitantly stepped in, filled to the brim with claustrophobia. Oh well, at least they were with Azure. Their Dear Azure.
“Why here?” Two Time whispered.
“Nobodies gonna look in here, nobodies looked in here for ages!”
“I trust you..”
“I trust you tooooo.” Azure replied in an overly-sappy voice.
Two Time smirked, they appreciated Azure.
“Soo, what do we do in here? Besides.. Not doing chores..?” Two Time questioned, “I dunno .. just hang out. Talk.” Azure answered.
All they do is talk, what else would there be to talk about?
“Is there anything we .. haven’t talked about? Anything we haven’t told each other? It feels as if there’s nothing new, but that’s fine. As long as you're around.” Two Time observed.
“Is there anything you haven’t told me?” Azure unknowingly inched closer.
“Well.. maybe.. I don’t know. I don't even know what I’m keeping from myself. You?”
“Uh–Yeah. Maybe one thing. It’s small though.. Just.. pesters me.”
“Oh. What is it? — Well, I’d like to know, but it’s not an obligation to tell me. You know I’m comfortable no matter what.”
Azure replied with a smile, not touching further on what he’s keeping.
They messed around a bit more, goofing off. This was fun. Even if they got caught, Two Time wouldn’t regret it. “Why did the spawn cross the road?” Azure started.
“Why?”
“To get to its second life…!”
…
“Get it? Cause it’d like .. Get hit by a car? Sorry.”
…
Suddenly Two Time bursts into a fit of giggles.
“THA-THAT’S SO STUPID!? HA–HUAHH!”
"Quiet, Two Time! They're not supposed to see us in here, hehe!"
Azure continued to make corny spawn and cult jokes one after another, desperate to hear Two Times laughs.
“Oh my spawn Azure, how I love you.” Two time subconsciously remarked, not knowing what they had said.
“Huh?”
“What?”
“Oh.. uh–just thought you said something.” Azure just assumed it was completely platonic, but deep down he wish it wasn’t.
Suddenly, Azure is spiked with a couple ounces of confidence.
“I uh.. uh–I love you too.”
Two Time didn’t respond. They couldn’t even process anything that happened in the past 5 minutes. They didn’t know why, but they leaned their head against Azures shoulder, tinting Azures face.
“I think you’re really nice Two Time..” Azurewrath muttered, shy as a mouse.
Two Time chuckled, a bit shy theirselves.
It seems cupid hit Two Time with confidence as well, as an unstoppable force guided their hand to Azures.
“I.. uh.. I like how you’re shy a lot with others Azure, but it’s like you're holding it in just to let your true spirit out for me when we’re alone. I also like the way you so carefully tend to your flowers, it’s a lot like the way you’re to me.”
“You are like a flower, reserved until cared for, then you bloom, and you’re beautiful.” Azure said back.
Two Time rubs their thumb on Azure's hand.
“What flower would I be?”
“A nightshade. You're so loyal, and poisonous, but in .. a good way. You do things to me, like you’re an infection.”
Any sign of platonicity was gone by now.
“Two Time, did you mean it when you said you loved me?”
“Of course I did.”
“But the only love allowed in the cult is for the Spawn.”
“I see the spawn in you.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
Azure caved into Two Times touch, leaning his head on theirs.
They’d never be perfect, worse than defective even, but love with a bit of toxicity sprinkled in the air is better than none.
They fell to slumber in that closet, embracing each other. Sure, they’d get into even more trouble if they were caught, but at the time, it didn’t matter.
