Chapter 1: Even with the Dinosaurs.

Chapter Text

They’re young, and have their whole life ahead of them.

Sammy has graduated from high-school, and Yaz is searching for a College in Texas to stay close to her girlfriend. They have been together for four years at that point. Sammy was 18, Yaz was 19.

That was the first time it happened, the first proposal.

Sammy and Yaz were sitting together outside, computer propped up in front of them for their planned Camp Fam Call. And all Sammy could do was just stare and watch as Yaz spoke.

Her touch, her look, the love in her eyes. And that damn smile. Sammy fell, and she fell hard. And everyday, she could only fall harder.

Thats when that urge appeared in her heart. the urge to ask this damn woman to marry her. The pull to forever be by Yaz, intertwined in her life. No matter what happened, she wanted to be there. She would always be there.

Once the computer was off, she turned around to look at her Girlfriend. Who had surprised her by wrapping her arms around her waist and nuzzling her head in the crook of her neck.

Sammy could only let out a contagious laugh, leaning her head against Yaz’s and running her left hand through their hair. The stars seem to sparkle in her girlfriend’s eyes, a spark she’s never seen before.

“Ain’t you cuddly today?”

“I can’t help it, you’re perfect.”

“Awh, you always know how to make my heart flutter.”

Their lips met in a Tender kiss, soft, slow, and sweet. They were young then. Innocent teenagers with a traumatic past they had put behind them.

When Sammy had pulled away, her eyes staring deep into Yaz’s, she felt that pull again. The need to be with her. She knew what she wanted right then and there, a future with Yaz. For the rest of her life. She knew then too, she wanted to propose the idea.

Yasmina…”

A ring suddenly cut Sammy off, and Yaz had to pull her body away from the girl, taking her phone out her pocket. Sammy couldn’t help but pout at the loss of contact, yet her need for touch had been stopped by Yasmina’s confused look.

“Yaz- what’s wrong hun?”

“I don’t know, my mom’s calling. We should probably head inside.”

That they did, Hands intertwined as they walked back into the Gutierrez Family Farm. Sammy and Yaz had quietly slipped into their room, preventing any little children or old relatives coming to bother them.

The house was quiet, awfully quiet. Sammy could only hear the sound of a TV playing in the living room.

“Im gonna go see if my fam’s alright, I’ll be back.” Sammy quickly kissed Yaz on the cheek, also giving her the opportunity to have a private talk with her mother.

After that, Sammy had slipped through the house pretty easily. It was so…silent. Cold. Off.

She followed the sound of the TV, and finally found her family.

“Ma- Pa, whats-?”

That’s what made her freeze.

The sight of her family huddled around a TV, with a live news broadcast reporting the incident at Lockwood mansion.

Dinosaurs let loose on the mainland.

Old memories flashed through her head. The screaming. The horror. The fear. Her friends. The Indominus- Scorpius-  all those dinosaur attacks. Everything she worked so hard to leave behind, all now coming back and hitting her like a bull.

The sound of glass shattering in her room is what broke her out her trance, the sudden- burning feeling that Yaz was in danger flashed in her mind. And she ran.

“Yasmina!” She barreled into her room, eyes frozen on the Window. Thankfully, it wasn’t broken. But the glass on a picture frame of the camp fam was. And there, tucked into the corner of the room, was Yaz.

Her eyes went wide as she quickly ran to kneel beside her girlfriend, hands grasping hers and squeezing them desperately. She hadn’t seen such a brutal Panic attack before, not from Yaz. And she could only assume what news her mother broke to her.

It spent a few hours to calm Yasmina down, to be able to get her to drink water and eat food. To get her to shower and to change for bed. Sammy had to practically guide her the whole time, the shock still evident on her girlfriend’s face.

She wasn’t able to bring up the topic she wanted to before. She wasn’t able to ask Yasmina if she was up for marriage.

She wasn’t able to promise a life with her. Not with the risk that dinosaurs brought upon them.

She didn’t ask Yasmina that night.
