Caitlyn tried to focus on the contrast of the sling strap to the firmness of Vi’s torso, the way the tattoos felt under her fingertips, as she felt a shudder, and shake, once, twice – “You can cry,” she encouraged.
“But yo–” She was cut off by an especially large sob, whining and winding its way out of her scratchy throat as she turned, eyes targeting the bandages before she could think. “You can’t,” Vi insisted, carefully pushing out rough words. “You’re not supposed to, your dad –”
“Well, I can’t exactly help it, right now.” Caitlyn watched as Vi’s gaze dipped down to her lips, which she could feel trembling, dangerously.
Then Vi was kissing her – full, scarred lips moving against hers.
