Work Text:

What Jhin had planned for was a nice vacation to somewhere quiet with a beautiful view to the coast where both of them could be together without interruptions. And it was perfect at first, but of course something had to go wrong with Jhin's plans.

It was not an unpredicted storm, nor an interruption from the Kinkou or anything of the sort. It was, well… much more pathetic than that. Jhin had gotten sick. A simple fever and a runny nose was all it took to dismantle all the months he spent planning everything.

“Oh, finally! I've been here for ages. What happened in the kitchen that took you so long?” He lashed at the waiter as he brought the food the couple had ordered.

“We are terribly sorry, sir. It was just a minor problem with the–” The waiter wasn't even given the chance to explain before Jhin started arguing again.

“A problem, you say? With all the renown this restaurant has, and it still has problems? Oh, please. I thought we– Ouch!” He was interrupted by Hwei stepping on his foot under the table, embarrassed with all the attention they were getting over this fuzz.

“I'm so, so sorry. You can ignore him.” Hwei tried to ease things with the waiter, dismissing him before Jhin decided to continue talking.

He now had to somehow deal with the pouty man in front of him. He was clearly angry to be interrupted, but he knew better than to lash it onto Hwei.

“Jhin, what was that?” As Hwei expected, he coldly averted his gaze to stare at the plate in front of him instead.

“... Answer.” the artist stepped on his foot again, making him flinch.

“Ahg!” It took him a few seconds before he decided to admit his mistake. “I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that.”

Hwei didn't felt like he was being completely sincere, but there was at least a hint of honesty in his words, and that was enough for him to forgive him for now.

“Hm, this is really good.” The artist muttered after his first bite of his dinner. However, the lack of an answer from his date caught his attention. Then, he realized he was still staring at his plate, but not touching his food.

“Is something wrong, Jhin?” Hwei asked, starting to get worried.

“Ah, no. It's nothing, love.” Hwei certainly didn't believe him though. He knew Jhin enough to recognize that there was something going on with him. “I'm just not that hungry, that's it.

“But you haven't eaten anything though. Is the food not to your taste? I thought you said it was your favorite…” Hwei hated how dense Jhin could be sometimes, but he tried his best to be understanding and to go slowly.

“I'm fine, Hwei…” He repeated, trying to get away from his boyfriend's suspicion. But as he tried to finally bring the first bite of food to his mouth, he started getting nauseous again. This time Hwei definitely noticed.

As soon as he noticed that Jhin wasn't feeling well he walked up to his side to help keep him on balance.

“Hey, are you feeling well?” His voice was softer and more caring this time around. Upon placing his hand on the other's forehead, he realized what he was really dealing with. “Jhin, this is serious. You should be in bed now.”

“... Sorry.” His weakened state started affecting his voice, which was slightly hoarder now.”

Hwei sighed, he really couldn't get mad at him, even if he tried. The artist quickly gestured for the waiter and paid the bill, more worried about his sick boyfriend than the untouched plates.

Both arrived at the hotel they were staying at, Hwei always at his side to help him sustain his height all the way to their bed. Jhin flopped on it, his legs already giving up under him. Hwei helped him settle up on the bed, loosening his top – that at this point was soaked in sweat – and adjusting the pillows under his head while the other grunted in discomfort.

“Hey, shh. You’ll be okay. I'll bring you some medicine.” He muttered softly before walking away.

It hurted him to hear the weak whining behind his back from Jhin pleading for him to not let him alone, but he also knew he couldn't just stand there and do nothing. It's not like it took him long either, only a few, short minutes and he was already back with a medicine, a warm tea and some tissues.

“Why did you leave me?” Jhin pouted again. Hwei knew he was only acting like this because of the fever, but he couldn't help but find it adorable.

“I brought you medicine.” He answered, holding said medicine for Jhin to take along with the cup of tea. He did it with no problems, but that didn't stop him from whining.

“I could've died while you weren't here.” Jhin said with what could only be described as a pathetic wet cat look in his eyes. It seems even when sick, his flair for drama never left him; Rather, it was even worse.

“It's just a fever, Jhin. You'll be okay.” He giggled, finding this whole situation endearing. Jhin didn't enjoyed being laughed at, though.

“Hmph. Don't laugh at me.” That only made Hwei laugh even more. He couldn't hold it back, it was too cute for him.

“Ah, sorry. You just act very different from usual when you're sick. I wasn't expecting it.” That genuine smile seemed to make Jhin get softer though, or maybe if was just his impression.

“... Just don't leave me.” He muttered, looking away as he tried to hide the blush on his cheeks. “But don't stay too close either, you might get sick too.”

Hwei shook his head and lied down on the bed, a bit further away than usual, but still close enough that they could hold hands still. And Jhin took that opportunity the moment he saw it, holding his beloved’s hand close to his heart.

Hwei was about to fall asleep when he heard whimpering near him, and he soon went to check on him.

His partner was sniffing lightly, clearly trying to hold it back. The artist snuck up closer to him to talk.

“Jhin? Are you okay?” He muttered in a low voice, not wanting to disturb him too much.

“... I ruined everything, didn't I?” His voice cracked and he sniffed once more. Hwei could easily sense not only the sickness, but the emotions weighting on him.

“Huh? What are you talking about?” Hwei asked, not entirely sure of what he was referring to. Was it about their dinner date? “It's fine, Jhin. We can always do another date when you're feeling better.”

“B-but…” Jhin tightened his grip on the other's hand. “Today was special… I had everything planned already… Now it's all ruined.”

“Hey, shh. It's okay. Things don't go always as we plan but it's okay.” Hwei placed a kiss on his forehead, letting him snuggle closer to him to cry. “It's just one date. We can have many others still.”

“It's not just a date!” Jhin huffed, but quickly saw there was no use being angry anymore. “Today was… I was supposed to… I was going to ask your hand today.”

Hwei couldn't answer, completely in shock. The wave of emotions that hit him almost made him forget about the situation he was in. He just couldn't stop smiling now.

“Eh?!” He exclaimed, turning Jhin's head to look back at him. What Jhin saw now was probably one of the most beautiful smiles ever. It was all it took to make him remember why he was so in love with this man. “W-were you going t-to…?”

“Ah. Uh… Yes. B-but ignore it. I'll set things up again and then I'll ask–” Jhin’s line of thought was interrupted by a full, heated kiss coming from his beloved. The happiness exhaling of him was enough to make his mood lighten up.

“I accept!” Hwei answered as he pestered his face with kisses.

“That's not how it works! I haven't asked you yet! You can't answer now!” Jhin tried his best to get mad at him, but he couldn't when he was being suffocated with all that affection. “I take it back! We are not getting married like this.”

“Oh? Already divorcing? But are you sure you can live without me?” As Jhin expected, taking about his marriage proposal plans to him was a mistake, and now he had to deal with his adorable teasings.

“Uhg! Just… can you pretend I haven't said anything?” He appealed to pleading. “I want to do it properly.”

Hwei placed one last kiss on his forehead before answering in a soft voice. “Okay. Just don't make me wait.”

“I won't.” Jhin's heart felt light at the sight of his boyfriend – now almost fiance – so content. He wouldn't let go of him for nothing in this world. “I promise.”
