Work Text:

The journey back through the crossroads after their contract was long. They were tired and wanted to be home so they could take a nice long bath. The contract itself had been fairly simple. The blood mage had been hiding out in a hamlet just outside of Minrathous. Villagers had been going missing and later found drained of their blood.

at first the village had thought a vampire was on the loose, superstition was not uncommon outside of the larger city's, but the mage had been caught red handed at last, a poor farm boy had been drained, they had tried to kill them with there pitchforks and scythes but farmers didnt stand a chance against a blood mage.

They had petitioned the crows for aid, Lucanis had volunteered himself along with Rook, Spite was away on a contract, and it had been a while since they had a moment alone together. This contract had been the perfect excuse. Viago had told Lucanis he needed to stop being a bleeding heart, helping these villages for free was bad for business, but Lucanis had insisted.

Coming across a Guardian had been unexpected, it was larger than any they had seen before, it had come out of nowhere near a broken bridge, it had charged at them knocking Rook into a wall winding her, Lucanis had quickly dispatched it, his heart pounding in his chest as his eyes fell on her prone form she was not moving.

He swore, dropping to his knees at her side,

"Rook!" he called to her, checking her for injuries. She had a few cuts and scrapes, but he couldn't see anything serious. She was breathing but unconscious. He gently took her into his arms, sitting her up, he pressed his forehead to hers

"Wake up, please!" he whispered. Fear gripped him like a vice.

She groaned, her eyes fluttering open

"What happened?" she gasped, her ankle hurt.

"Easy, you had an argument with a wall." She winces again,

"Did I win?" she joked, making him smile. If she was joking, she was probably fine

“I’m going to lift you up, okay? Tell me if it hurts.” He tucked one arm under her legs while supporting her back with the other.

As he stood she groaned in pain

"My ankle, Shit that hurts." he pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"The Eluvian is close, let's get you home. Dr Frances can fix you up when we get to the villa.

"You're going to carry me the whole way to the villa." He grinned,

"Of course." She giggled, pressing a kiss to his cheek

"My hero." he adjusted his grip, and she gasped.

"Sorry, mi amore, I will try to be gentle," he reassured her as he began a slow walk towards the Eluvian, with any luck, that guardian was the only one. After about 10 minutes, Rook's head rested against his chest, She felt so tired.

"Stay awake, mi amore, you might have a concussion." he pressed a kiss to her forehead, and she stirred back awake.

"God, im tired." He stepped through the Eluvian into Treviso,

"Almost home," He said softly. A crow on patrol noticed them and quickly hailed a carriage for them,

"Thank you." Lucanis said as he climbed in, settling her so she was laid on the seat with her head in his lap, he stroked his fingers through her head and frowned, finding blood.

"he tapped her cheek when her eyes fluttered

"Don't make me slap you," he teased. She opened her eyes and reached up to touch his cheek

"Promises, promises." She teased back, making him smile. the carriage arrived at the villa, and an attendant opened the door

"Señor Dellamorte, shall I call Dr Frances?" Lucanis nodded

"Yes, thank you, have him meet us in our rooms." The attendant bowed and hurried off.

Lucanis hoisted her out of the carriage and back into his arms

"come on, you can rest soon." He carried her up the stairs and to their rooms. he sensed Spite was in their rooms and smiled, he was home early. He reached out with the bond to get him to open the door, Spite frowned as he opened the door noticing Rook in his arms.

"Something happen?" he asked as Lucanis laid her on the bed and propped her ankle up with a pillow

"Guardian." Rook winced as her ankle throbbed

"I help?" Spite offered, and she smiled,

"Thank you, Spite." She sighed with relief as he took some of her pain by shouldering some of it. Lucanis sat on the edge of the bed as they waited for the healer to arrive.

"Remind me not to pick fights with walls." Rook groaned She could feel a headache coming on.
