Chapter Text
When you first approached your wife about the idea of having children, she had immediately shut it down.
"A kid?! With their constant screaming, and sicknesses and snot bubbles and-" Velvet had responded, gagging. "Ew. Have you utterly lost your mind?!"
So yeah, you thought your answer was pretty clear.
A no.
And so you told her you heard her loud and clear, as you proceeded to unknowingly mope around the apartment for the next two weeks.
Velvet ignored it for the most part. She was a famous model now, after all. She had more important things to think about than her wife sulking around like a kicked puppy.
Despite Velvet and her twin brother, Veneer, having been to jail and then on house arrest for almost a year, Velvet was still just as selfish and egotistical as she had always been.
As if those experiences had taught her almost nothing.
Sure, she was more in tune with herself.
Came out as a lesbian, genuinely apologized to you for how she'd treated you up to that point, apologized for lying about the trolls. Agreed to go to therapy (fine, court-mandated therapy, but she agreed not to verbally rip the poor therapist to shreds when she went to her appointments.)
But she was still, well, herself. Your beautiful, demanding diva.
After a while, you kind of let the subject of having a child slip your mind. You didn’t exactly forget, it just wasn’t the main focus for you anymore. Between balancing your job, bills, and taking care of Velvet, you were pretty busy.
That was, until Veneer had his daughter.
Veneer and his partner had finally had the baby. A cute little girl named Vanessa, with bright eyes and a smile that was infectious.
You and Velvet were determined to be the best aunts ever. As soon as you got the call, you and your wife had practically caused a car accident rushing to the hospital (Velvet’s road rage didn’t help). You had walked into the room, arms filled with gifts when you both laid eyes on the little baby.
“She looks like a bean.” Velvet had said, snorting.
She peered over her brother to gaze at the baby in his arms. Her gaze landed on Vanessa's cute chubby cheeks. Her gentle cooing as she grasped Veneer's thumb in her little fist.
And Veneer's smile. He was practically glowing with happiness. Unlike anything Velvet had ever seen.
Velvet’s face immediately softened, a rare sight. “A… really cute bean.”
Her voice lowered, almost as if she was afraid someone had heard her moment of vulnerability.
It wasn’t exactly the words she had spoken, it was the way she said them. Softly, shocked. As if she was astonished she was capable of feeling the way she felt when she looked at Veneer’s daughter.
Velvet had stepped back, regaining her composure as she started tying the pink and yellow balloons you’d brought to a nearby chair.
You watched her as she moved about, a look of wonder in your eyes.
What was going on in that beautiful head of hers?
