Bobby's Promise.

Summary:

Post 8x15 of 9-1-1 with what happens to Bobby. He promised to be Athena's forever, but when Bobby and the 118 are called to a lab fire, will they really have forever?

Notes:

I was hesitant to post this because it's not that great, but it's also not awful. I'm still rough with writing fanfics.

Chapter Text

“Athena, you should come in here.” Buck gulped, pacing. He’d just heard that Bobby Nash, his coworker and hero, had been infected just like Chimney. How was he supposed to tell Athena? Athena and Bobby had been married for nearly 5 years, and he promised her forever.

Athena arrived quickly, and was shocked. Her husband was standing there on the other side of the glass with his mask off, which was the first sign that something was wrong. Her heart dropped when Bobby spoke again.

“I got infected. My oxygen tank tube got damaged in the explosion, so that’s likely when I got infected. I started feeling it hours ago. I really don’t want to go out like this. I know I’ve said I don’t want to live sometimes, but this whole call was a wakeup call. I truly want to stay. Help me…” Bobby was in tears now, with blood dripping down his face.

Buck nodded, completely understanding Bobby’s mindset. Bobby had lost his wife Marcy and daughter Brook over 10 years earlier. His son Robert Jr, known as Rob among the 118, had survived the fire, and recently joined the 118 after contacting his father from college at Minnesota State.

“I can get Rob if you want, Dad-” Buck stopped himself, realizing he’d just called Bobby “dad”. It felt foreign to him, like when he accidentally called his teacher ‘mom’ in the third grade.

Bobby didn’t even have time to answer before Rob and Roz ran in with a small insulated cup, much like Moira had, with something inside. Polly the rat was with them too, clinging to Rob’s shoulder, squeaking as if she was cheering. She didn’t want to miss this because she basically helped make the dose that was about to be administered to Bobby.

“Alright Captain Nash, we’ve got the cure ready in this cup. All you have to do is drink it. It’s the same formula Chimney got but it can also be taken orally.” Roz explained, handing him the vial. The liquid looked like milk, but smelled like the pink amoxicillin he had to take as a kid whenever he was sick.

Bobby took the medication, and he was shocked. It tasted just like amoxicillin. Roz went on to explain the makeup of the cure. They didn’t have any other flavoring to mask the taste aside from the bubblegum-cherry they used for amoxicillin. The drug itself was created using the same base molecules as an Ebola medication, with added antivirals.

Everyone held their breath as they watched what happened next. Bobby started to cough up blood, which was expected. It wasn’t as much blood as Chimney coughed up, surprisingly.

Bobby smiled weakly "I think it's gonna be alright. So what's next? Do I have to wait her until I stabilize?"

Roz nodded, but Buck spoke, "Yeaah, you probably should be isolated here for a bit until you stop bleeding, then we'll get you sent out to the hospital."
