KADE and DR. LUMEN sit on the couch in Kade’s apartment, lit by a dim floor lamp and the TV. A bottle of red wine and two almost-empty glasses sit on the coffee table with a bowl of popcorn in between them. Kade pauses the TV as an episode ends and groans.
KADE
Ugh… I hate that episode on
my rewatches…
LUMEN
Mm. That scene with the device switch felt…
Sssssstupid. Yes.
KADE
SO stupid. I don’t know WHY they let this writer
end up showrunner.
Kade falls onto Lumen. He’s drunk. Lumen sways a little bit.
KADE
You get me.
Lumen hums, trying to appear unamused.
LUMEN
Next episode?
KADE
I’m too drunk to pay attention.
LUMEN
You seem fully able to watch right now.
Kade grabs the bottle of wine and downs the rest of it.
KADE I’m too drunk to pay attention.
LUMEN
You’re going to get nauseous.
KADE
YOU’RE gonna get nauseous.
Kade starts getting dizzy. Lumen catches him and Kade plants a foot on the ground.
LUMEN
Do you need to lie down? KADE I’m fine. LUMEN
Lie down.
Kade playfully shoves Lumen’s shoulder and they wrestle until Lumen straddles his lap and pushes Kade’s chest. Kade dramatically falls back onto the couch and looks up excitedly at Lumen. Lumen regains lucidity and quickly climbs off Kade to sit an appropriate distance away.
LUMEN
Um. I apologize. KADE Why?
LUMEN I’m going to stay over here now.
KADE
We’ve shot at each other with guns. You can
lay on me. LUMEN
That’s your metric of intimacy?
KADE Kinda yeah.
Lumen looks at the wine. Looks at Kade. Looks at the wine again. He pours Kade’s cup into his and drinks the remains (Kade didn’t leave much) and gets comfortable cuddling Kade on the couch. Kade starts playing with Lumen’s hair. Lumen’s eyes widen and he hesitantly brings his hand up to Kade’s shoulder.
KADE
I like this.
Lumen slowly props himself up to look at Kade’s face. Kade smiles at him and brushes Lumen’s hair out of his face. Puts his other hand on Lumen’s neck. Lumen stays as still as possible. Kade brings their faces closer.
LUMEN
I’m not sure this is a good idea.
KADE
What’s wrong with bad ideas?
Lumen watches Kade’s lips move. He doesn’t have the will to keep pretending he doesn’t want Kade more than anything. He initiates.
