Chapter Text
After another day of exhausting training session, Killua goes to the bedroom that he's sharing with his best friend and training partner, Gon. The sky has already turned dark with numerous amount of stars twinkling on it. The beautiful view of the night is reflected on Killua's eyes— as he was wide awake.
He sat on his bed staring outside the window. The blanket was covering his legs, the lights are out, but he isn't sleeping yet. Or more like, he couldn't. He has been having this issue for the last 3 days, ever since he essentially did what counts as stalking during Gon and Palm's date. His thoughts has been ridden with nothing except that he also wants to experience it— to go on a date with Gon.
Sure, during the stalking he got caught up in a dangerous fight with the chimera ant, Rammott, and then ended up finding out that his own brother Illumi implanted a needle inside his brain that has been controlling his thoughts. He succeeded taking that needle out and ever since that, he felt like he was born anew. Killua finally could felt relief, as he's not under his brother's mind control anymore.
He's free now.
Before the fight, their veteran Nen trainer, Bisky, said that Killua will end up leaving Gon to die one day— and Killua planned to part with Gon after their mission in NGL finished.
Now that the problem is gone, Killua wants to stay by Gon's side, even after the mission.
After a long time of mulling, he let out a deep, heavy sigh.
“Killua? You're still up?”
Killua jolted as he heard his friend's voice breaking the silence. Usually, Gon sleeps as soon as they entered their room, so he was surprised. Gon has already turned on the bedlamp that was placed in the middle of their beds.
“G-Gon! That scared me. You're not asleep yet?”
Killua retorted as he turned his head to Gon. Unlike his usual look, Gon's hair was messy and downturned, his eyes half-lidded looking drowsy. Gon shook his head, “Mm, I did for a second... but I somehow woke up. How about you, Killua? Why aren't you asleep yet?”
Hearing Gon's question, Killua's cheeks slightly blushed in embarassment. The reason being that he couldn't sleep thinking about wanting to go on a date with Gon, after all.
“I just don't feel sleepy.”
Gon looked at Killua and rose up facing him.
“What's wrong? Are you having some kind of trouble? You can share it with me, Killua.”
Gon looked deep into Killua's eyes, showing concern to his best friend. Killua blushes even redder as they're now staring at each other.
“It's nothing.. I just couldn't sleep, that's all. You should go back to sleep now Gon, it's late already.”
“No. How could I go to sleep peacefully when you're having trouble sleeping? Least I can do is stay up together until you sleep! Although, if you do have something troubling you, I could lend an ear. Maybe we could work it out together.”
The greenheaded boy is now fully awake. Seeing the determined look plastered all over Gon's face, Killua couldn't help but let out a relieved sigh.
“I told you it's nothing...!”
“Really—?” Gon raised up one of his eyebrows.
“...yeah. I'll go to sleep now, and you should too.”
“You're lying!”
As Killua started to lay down, Gon has already moved to Killua's bed and sat down on the blanket, forcing Killua to stay on his sitting posture.
“Hey! What are you doing, idiot?! Lemme go to sleep!”
“You shouldn't lie to your friend, Killua.”
“... I- I was just having stupid thoughts.”
“And that is?”
“That's...”
Killua sighed before he continued, “okay. I will tell you now, but.. promise you wouldn't laugh, okay? And just forget about it!”
Gon nodded wholeheartedly. “I promise.”
“So.. um, just the other date you went out on a date with Palm, right?”
“Yup. It was fun! Even though I got punished by Palm after that!” Gon laughed thinking how he had to write an apology thousand times for Palm because broke his promise to her.
“Yeah... and so— it had me thinking... that I want to go on a d-date too....”
After finishing his sentence that got quieter by the end, Killua covered his face with the remaining part of his blanket that wasn't blocked by Gon. He's sure his whole face is red by now.
The whole room got silent after that, and a cold breeze from the half opened window brushed their hairs slightly. Gon didn't laugh as he promised— though it's more like he stopped thinking.
“Okay, now forget it! Pretend that I didn't say anything!” Killua grasped the empty air in an effort to hide his embarrassment.
“A date? Why didn't you just say, Killua?” Gon finally replied with a smile.
“I- I mean, it'd be weird of me if I did.”
“Eeh? Even thought you guys often argue, I think Palm wouldn't have a problem going out with you!”
“Huh?”
“Huh?”
Once again, the room got silent. Both of them blinked as they were maintaining eye contact. Gon misunderstood Killua's word, making all this situation even more awkward for Killua.
The boy has gathered all of his courage to admit that he wants to go on a date, and now he needed to clarify it's not with Palm— it's with Gon.
It's Gon that he wants.
“Idiot.”
“Huuh?! Did I say something wrong? Why'd you call me an idiot!?” Gon didn't accept Killua's insult.
“You're an idiot! It's not with Palm. It's you!"
"I- I want to go on a date with you...”
Killua laid down on his bed feeling defeated. He used his toned slim arms to cover his face. and he closed his eyes. At that moment, he didn't want to face Gon anymore. He wants to disappear from the world.
Gon was frozen still.
“Me—?!” he finally shouted.
“Yeah... but I told you it's weird, so forget it.”
“No, no, Killua! I mean, haven't we been together all this time? Since Hunter Exam, you've been on my side. Well, we did part for awhile because you went back to your house.”
“I- I know that, but it's different...! I don't think those count as dates. Do you?”
“I see. That's true, we haven't been on a date, like the one I went with Palm. Okay! We should do it, then!”
“But isn't it weird? We're both boys afterall.”
Gon looked up, thinking seriously while closing his eyes. His arms was crossed on his chest. He tilted his head slightly to the right.
“Hmm, of all the dates I've been, I've only went with girls.. but I don't think it's weird at all. You'd be the first boy I will go on a date with! Well, it should be none other than you.”
Gon opened his eyes and put up his index finger with a bright smile.
Hearing those words, Killua flushed. The word 'first' especially made him happy. Unlike Gon, he never went on a date his entire life— so it's special for him.
“I haven't been to one, so you'd be my first as well,” Killua grinned.
“Yatta—! It's decided, then! Where do you want to go?” Gon put up both of his arm.
The awkward air has turned into excitement for both of them.
“I don't really know, since I haven't been on a date my entire life. You're the experienced one, so you decide.”
“Really!? Then... just follow me tomorrow! I'll show you lots of places— and my favourite one! Let's have tons of fun together!”
“I'm looking forward to it. You better not disappoint me.”
“Hey! I'm the one with experience, remember?” Gon stick his tongue out, making Killua chuckle.
“I still can't believe you have more experience than me. Anyways, let's go back to sleep. Thank you, Gon.”
“Yosh, I'm glad I could help. Good night, Killua!” Gon jumped to his own bed, turned off the bedlamp and quickly returns to sleep.
“Good night.”
Having the problem solved— Killua finally could rest. His chest was thumping in excitement, but the exhaustion finally got to him and he finally joined Gon to dreamland.
Tomorrow, they'll be having their first date. A real date with just the two of them together.
