Work Text:

Emmrich watches as his love lies in their bed. He watches as those brilliant blue eyes crack open and a face far wearier than it has any right to be softens when those blue eyes find him.

“Em?” His love calls, waiting as he watches.

“Yes, Dearest?” He watches, knowing his dearest Viago is not long for this world. An aged hand comes up to brush gently at his cheek. Emmrich watches as love fills those tired eyes.

He pulls at his glamor, letting his Dearest see how much love and affection he still has for him. “I love you, Emmrich.” Viago dearest proclaims as Emmrich watches, his emotions so full of love and grief for the other man. “I always will, no matter how much time passes. Remember that.”

Emmrich watches as Viago reaches for the vial on their bedside table, then helps as his Dearest struggles to grasp the concoction. He watches as those blue eyes flick between Emmrich and the vial. He watches as Viago takes a deep breath, then brings the vial to his lips. He watches as his Dearest swallows the poison.

Viago pulls him in for one last, loving kiss that Emmrich lets linger for as long as he can before Viago dearest grows limp in his arms.

Though his emotions threaten to overwhelm him and a wail rips from his throat, Emmrich watches as the body of his husband begins to cool. After all, watching is all Emmrich has left.
