The Boy I Thought I Knew

Summary:

Fate was a cruel thing. That, Katsuki Bakugo knew all too well. It was almost as if it was mocking him. From falling behind in a (not so) one-sided rivalry to seemingly having ended the world's greatest hero; the universe just loved to taunt him. And now? Apparently, his soulmate is Izuku Midoriya. Or at least that’s what the mark on his wrist shows.

Notes:

Hello!! Thank you for taking the time to read my story! :D This is my first ever fan fiction, so if there's anything I can improve on feel free to let me know! (Kind words ofc)

Chapter 1: Prologue - Fate

Chapter Text

Fate was a cruel thing. That, Katsuki Bakugo knew all too well. It was almost as if it was mocking him. From falling behind in a (not so) one-sided rivalry to seemingly having ended the world's greatest hero, the universe just loved to taunt him. And now? Apparently, his soulmate is Izuku Midoriya. Or at least that’s what the mark on his wrist shows.

“Don’t think this means anything, alright Deku?” Katsuki growls, gritting his teeth as he stares at the mark on his wrist. The ‘tattoo’ was in the shape of a heartbeat, like one you’d see on a heart monitor, except there was a triangle connected to a diamond in the middle.

“Fate doesn’t lie Kacchan-” Deku starts, quickly cut off by Katuski’s foul mouth. “Fuck fate! Clearly it doesn’t know shit.”

The marks had just appeared while the two were out training. Now, back in Katsuki’s dorm room, the unlikely pair were in the midst of figuring out just what exactly was going on. Soulmarks were just a myth, an old wivestale. There’s no way this shit is real .. right?

Deku sighed. “I get that it doesn’t make sense, but surely there has to be an explanation for it…  I mean, it has been said that Soulmarks exist, maybe they’re just really rare? I mean, there wouldn’t be tales about them if no one has ever had one before-”

“Oi. Zip it before I blow your mouth off.”

“Ah- right, sorry..”

The two sat in silence, Katsuki on his bed, Deku in the rolling chair, awkwardly looking anywhere but at each other. Until finally, Katsuki quickly sat up from the bed, and marched over to Deku, hovering over him like a towering building.

“Show me your mark.” He demanded.   “Uhm…”

“Show me the damn mark nerd!” Katsuki grabbed Deku’s wrist and compared the shape to his own. “..Shit. It really is the same.” He pushed his hand through his hair, exhaling as he did so.

A beat of silence yet again.

“Just because we have matching tattoos now doesn’t make us friends , Deku.”

“You’re right Kacchan. We’re not friends, we’re-”    “Don’t you DARE finish that sentence idiot. I know what- what we.. are, alright?”

“Mhm.”   “Shut up! Just.. just stay the fuck away from me. I’ll stay out of your hair if you stay out of mine.”

Finally, Katsuki looks down at Deku, intensity blazing in his red eyes. But this time, the same can be said for Izuku. Fiery green passion dancing in emerald. It almost scares Katsuki. Almost.

He snaps out of the trance, shaking his head. “Now get the hell out of here before I change my mind on not lighting your ass on fire.” Deku gets up and shuffles out of Katsuki's room, with Katsuki swiftly locking the door behind him.

“Haaaah… fuck.”
