Completely Covered in Red

Summary:

in which you feel drops of red sliding down your hands

Work Text:

Your hands dripped as you lept into your lord’s doorway. Though the moon was already beginning its descent, it came as no surprise to you that his light was still on. You highly doubted he was waiting for you, he was a busy man with responsibilities more than you could fathom, after all, but it was your job to report the results of your mission nonetheless.

Leaving a short knock upon the shoji door, you took a step back. Though your hand still felt slick with that warm viscous liquid, you were surprised you did not leave a mark of red on the door. You should’ve and did know you wouldn’t. You washed the evidence of your deeds long before arriving. And yet it still felt as if you were leaving trails of red in your wake.

When the door opened, you took a step inside. Even at this hour of the night, your lord looked pristine as always. There was not a wrinkle in sight, nor a blemish upon his ever white clothes. That was the way it was supposed to be. He was the leader and you were only a small part of his shadow not meant to be seen. For your lord it was your honor to lay down everything you had if it could make just a fraction of his goals possible. It was your duty. It was your life.

You ignored the invisible drop that slid down your wrist and knelt before him in respect.

“My lord, the job was carried out successfully.”

He didn’t bother to look up from his paperwork.

“Hmm, with that, everything has fallen into place. I presume they will act soon, so keep a close eye on the camp. You know what to do when they make their move. Dismissed.”

Your eyes slid shut.

Your inhale shook ever so slightly.

A drip of blood ran down your palm.

“Yes sir!”

You took off into the darkness of the night leaving a trail of red behind you.
