Work Text:

"Charles? Charles!" Erik runs through the now-empty labs, calling Charles' name in each one. He doesn't hear a sound in return.

He had dealt with Charles' captors—and scientists that claimed they were perfectly innocent—outside, and now there was only one person left for Erik to find. The most important person.

Usually he could easily get a sense of his location by the metal of his wheelchair—or even the iron in his blood, if he payed a bit more attention—but here, he didn't have the chair, and there's enough blood everywhere that none of it could help.

"Charles!"

Then, for the first time, he hears another voice.

"Erik?"

Erik runs.

When he finally finds Charles, he looks terrible. It must be that thought that makes Charles give out a snort of laughter before meeting his eyes. He must be overwhelmed enough to struggle to control his telepathy.

Charles is laying on the floor, halfway propped up on his elbows, and Erik hurries to his side to support him.

"Are you alright?" A stupid question in this context, but it's all Erik can think of to say. Charles smiles as he responds.

"I am now. Let's go home."
