No one truly knew how it all started.
Perhaps the virus had been leaked by terrorists. Maybe the lingering threat of global warming had caused a dormant virus to finally break free and wreak havoc. Perhaps the virus was an experiment conducted by Umbrella, just like the survivors would later claim. Perhaps it was just simply chance and circumstance, the way most things happen.
