Safer with them
November 13th 2027 a child was born in the back of a van by a 16 year old. It was a boy, he had dark hair he was so small couldn’t weight more than 2 pounds. The girl was just a child herself she couldn’t raise one herself especially not alone on the streets. that’s when the girl saw fire station 217. The safe haven box.
The girl slowly wrapped the small boy in a blanket and walked to the Drop box and placed him into it with a soft kiss to the forehead. Her baby was no longer her baby and will have a better life not on the streets.
Tommy was the first and closest person to hear the drop box alarm go off, He rushed to get there some gut feeling he had told him to rush. Tommy opened the door leading to the box, the child was so small compared to Tommy’s hands. Tommy slowly picked the little baby up supporting his head with one of his large hands and holding his body with the other.
The child had a birth mark like bucks but it was on his lip, He had dark hair like Tommy. This child could easily pass as his or Evan’s. Tommy eventually had to hand the small boy off to get evaluated but as soon as tommy let go all the child would do was cry. Tommy eventually called Evan, Buck has never drove so fast to the harbor before because Tommy said it was an emergency, Well it was but not a bad one like they deal with on an everyday basis.
“Tommy’s what wrong you said it’s an emergency and to get over here” Buck said with a slight panic in his voice trying to prepare for the worst.
Then he saw Tommy holding the baby, His heart felt like it was going to explode and melt as the same time. Surely buck has seen Tommy hold babies by now but something about this one was different.
“Evan meet Leon or Jude i’ve not really sure what i want to call him.” Tommy said looking down at the small child in his arms.
“Tommy where did you get this child?” Buck asks in soft tone as he steps behind Tommy and looks over his shoulder to get a better look at the child that his husband is holding and has clearly already bonded too.
Buck noticed the Birthmark on the child’s lip it matched the one he had on his eyebrow. he looked at the baby in Tommy’s arms and once again at Tommy. The hair was identical.
“I already talked to the social workers, I had Chim drop off some of Robbies old clothes and i got a car seat from the hospital so we can take him home with us tonight. And don’t worry about a crib hen said she had one we could barrow until we could get one.” Tommy said looking up at Evan with a soft smile.
“You think we are ready?” Buck asked softly with a crack in his voice and teary eyes
“I don’t think we ever will be but we will to learn just like everyone else” Tommy says with a smile and just as teary eyes as buck.
“I like Leon wade Buckley Kinard” buck said with a smile as he picked the baby up from Tommy’s arms.
Tommy smiled and placed a kiss to Bucks birthmark as he gathered up all of the baby stuff Chim had brought.
“You ready to go home little guy?” Buck said running a finger over the Leon’s little face.
Tommy and buck both smiled as they put Leon in his car seat and walked to Tommy’s truck knowing their life had just begun.
