"Heh, looks neat!" - Maya Fey said to herself as she looked at her reflection in the mirror, smiling brightly. She checked herself from a different angle, while her hands went up to her neck and fixed the ruffly cravat belonging to a certain prosecutor. "No wonder Miles wears it all the time!"
That's when Edgeworth entered the room, asking in a somewhat rushed tone.
"Maya, have you seen my-..."
His question trailed off when he saw what he was looking for being around his girlfriend's neck. Maya instantly giggled at Edgeworth's look on his face. The prosecutor was slightly caught off-guard, having not expected that, though he quickly composed himself, and his suprised expression changed back into his default stoic one. But before Edgeworth could request Maya to give him his cravat back, she interrupted with her usual excitement.
"I've been dying to try it on! So, how do I look?" - she asked as she was practically bouncing and her eyes twinkling.
"...My cravat looks stylistically mismatched with your medium attire." - Edgeworth said factually.
Typical Edgeworth. It was such a clinical statement, though Maya wouldn't want it to be any other way.
"Aw, bummer." - Maya tried to feign disappointment with a pout, but her lips uncontrollably curved into a smile.
Edgeworth briefly rolled his eyes, before getting back to the important matter.
"Now, may I get my cravat back, please?"
"Nah, I think I'll keep it." - the spirit medium shook her head, giving her trademark mischievous grin - "Gotta see how much a 'stylistic mismatch' can tick you off."
She was obviously just teasing the prosecutor about his poshy nature. It was something she liked about him though. She just couldn't help but gently tease him every now and then all in good fun, as it sometimes granted her with a cute and/or amusing reaction.
"Maya, please..." - Edgeworth let out another sigh, visibly too concerned about the matter on hand to register or react to the teasing - "I have a trial to attend this morning, so I must leave for the courthouse soon."
Edgeworth then reached out and repeated his request, giving Maya a serious and expecting look.
"Could you please return me my garment?"
"Alright, alright..." - Maya gave in, her grin turning into a softer smile.
She immediately removed her boyfriend's cravat from her neck. But then, instead of handing it to Edgeworth like he expected her to, Maya approached him walking past his outstretched hand and proceeded to tie the cravat around his neck herself.
Edgeworth's heart skipped a beat when Maya's fingers briefly brushed against his neck. As he looked at Maya carefully fixing his cravat, taking in the gentle movements of her hands, the soft smile on her lips, the faint rose blush on her cheeks... the sight somehow took his breath away.
Maya's action was so simple, and yet Edgeworth found there was something oddly intimate about it.
"There..." - Maya said softly, brushing the cravat one last time before looking up at Edgeworth - "It surely looks better on you than on me."
"...Thank you, Maya." - Egeworth said, a subtle yet visible smile finally making it to his lips.
"You're welcome, Miles."
Maya then gently tugged the collar of her boyfriend's suit jacket, and Edgeworth instinctively leaned in until their lips met in a kiss.
Although the kiss was short, it was nonetheless sweet and pleasurable for them both. When they pulled away, Maya looked at Edgeworth with a confident look.
"Good luck on the trial today." - she wished him, smiling.
"Ah, but there's no 'luck' in it." - Edgeworth protested with his characteristic smirk - "It all comes down to my logic and deduction skills."
"You know what I meant." - Maya rolled her eyes good-naturedly - "May the truth and justice prevail then."
"I will make sure of that." - Edgeworth said confidently.
It was soon after than he left for the courthouse. As he walked to his car, Edgeworth couldn't help but briefly touch his cravat as he thought of the small moment he shared with Maya just a minute ago and the pleasant feeling it brought on.
He wondered if he should let Maya tie his cravat every morning from then on.
