Chapter 1: Unfortunate Dismay

Chapter Text

Lately, Cosmo has been feeling down ever since Sprout had gone missing. He'd often miss his best friend, baking with him especially.

Besides this, it was really just another day, and the remaining toons had decided to search for supplies since they were running low.

Cosmo, because Sprout wasn't here, was in charge of running the group and deciding who would be in it. The only remaining toons are Vee, Astro, Brightney, Scraps, and Rodger. Since there were not many, they had to be careful.

Cosmo decided of Vee, Astro, and Rodger, including him. Scraps and Brightney were fine with it, as Brightney had to finish a book she was reading, and Scraps was working on a new craft.

As they entered the elevator for the hundredth time for supplies, the mood was gloomy. Which was unusual for the group, as they were usually throwing teases or jokes around.

After a long while, the elevator had finally descended, and everyone was ready to go down.

But Vee decided to stay near Cosmo for the time being, almost in a comforting way. She grabbed her mic, tapping it before she scanned the floor, and it was just the common twisteds. The usual for floor one.

Cosmo sighed as he stepped out of the elevator, not in the right mindset to be here, as he was worried for Sprout. Everyone had already gone their separate ways once he was out.

Cosmo walked around the floor, looking for a machine before spotting one directly next to Vee.

After a while of silence, Vee had decided to speak up; "I do hope it doesn't weigh on your mind much, Cosmo." Vee comforted surprisingly as she was doing the machine next to Cosmo.

Cosmo stayed silent, probably lost in his thoughts.

"Huh?" He questioned finally, after processing what she just said.

Vee sighed, leaning on the machine he was still doing after completing hers.

"I'm sorry about Berry-boy going missing, I know he meant a lot to you." Vee untangled her microphone as she spoke to Cosmo.

"It's.. fine, Vee. You don't have to comfort me, I'm just worried about him is all." He laughed awkwardly, trying to keep up the mood despite it already being gloomy and solemn.

Cosmo hopped off the machine after hearing the familiar 'ding' of the completed machine.

"Should we wait at the elevator?" The pastry asked Vee. There were only a few machines left, as they had just done two and someone else had done another, leaving one last machine.

"We can," Vee agreed. "I can see someone on the last machine, anyways." Vee excused, trying to make it seem as if she wasn't eager to just get off of the floor already.

So, they waited patiently by the elevator until the last machine was completed, and the elevator doors opened with a loud creaking sound mixed with the smell of metallic rust. It was a wonder how these things still worked.

Vee and Cosmo were (obviously) the first ones in the elevator, and the rest followed after.

Once more, everyone was quiet in the elevator, no sure how to bring up the mood.

As Dandy's platform went up, it was shown he was selling three gumballs on floor one. Of course, typical Dandy behavior to sell junk. It's not like they had the tapes for it anyway.

As everyone stood in silence, Dandy spoke up, breaking the silence like a plate suddenly crashing down on the kitchen floor.

"Where's Sprout?" Dandy asked, with a hint of relief in his voice, as the main would usually bug him.

Astro, the usual quiet one, spoke up, "He went missing the other day, Dandy." He answered, looking away from Dandy and focusing his eyes on the old elevator doors.

Dandy, the usual enthusiastic one of the group, let out a low chuckle to brighten the mood, spinning a tape in his hand as he observed the solemn faces of everyone in the elevator.

"No wonder I didn't see him in the elevator. Or else I would've thought he got killed on the first floor." Dandy smiled and joked, trying to be lighthearted and raise the mood. No one laughed, and it was even more awkward.

The silence seemed to never be filled as the clock on Dandys desk clicked, the only thing breaking through the silence. Mutiple seconds passed before Vee cleared her throat, turning to Dandy and speaking into her microphone.

"Dan-" Vee started before being cut off by the enthusiastic flower.

Dandy looked at the timer on his desk, seeing the clock tick to 'five'.

"Oh, look at the time! I have to go! See you!" Dandy waved, pulling the lever as his platform went down in a bit of a hurry, trying to avoid confrontation from the highly advanced TV.

Vee stared at the closed trapped door in a little bit of annoyance, crossing her arms.

"Yet he speaks to Astro, just never me." She scoffed under her breath, her screen flickering a bit as she spoke do to its old age. Even a futrtistic TV can grow old.

"Vee.." Astro tried to say, tightening the blanket around himself.

Although, before he could start, suddenly, the elevator doors opened with another creek, showing them towards the new floor.
