Chapter Text
It was late when they finally decided to make camp for the night. Rhian slung her pack down off her shoulder, retrieving her bedroll and laying it out on a flat expanse of ground. The terrain was flat for miles in every direction, and the stars and moon were shining bright above them.
She started a small fire, watching Shadowheart across from her dig through her own bag for dinner. They were running low on supplies and would have to find somewhere to stop soon. But after a minute of searching, Shadowheart turned to her, triumphantly holding up a cloth-wrapped bundle and a half empty bottle of wine. The last of their food rations, but it was enough for dinner, at least.
Shadowheart joined her by the fire, sitting next to her on the bedroll, and handed over the bread for her to split. “I’ll have to check our map,” she said, “But I think we’re pretty close to another town. We should be able to buy more supplies tomorrow. And hopefully find somewhere to stay that’s not outside.”
Rhian nodded, tearing off a large chunk of bread and shoving it in her mouth, earning a disapproving grumble. “Honestly, Rhian, I thought Karlach was bad about her table manners.”
Rhian stifled a laugh, trying not to choke. When she could speak again, “I am not that bad!”
Shadowheart didn’t deign to respond to that, but took the other half of the loaf when Rhian handed it over.
They sat in silence for a while, sharing their food back and forth until it was gone. “Alright, Princess,” that earned her a side-eye, “Quit hoarding the wine.”
Shadowheart grabbed the bottle next to her, moving to hand it over. Rhian reached for it, and she pulled it back, “Ah, manners.”
Rhian rolled her eyes and smiled, leaning in close to Shadowheart. “Please?” she murmured against her lips.
Shadowheart’s eyes fluttered closed, and she relinquished the bottle, using her now-free hand to run her fingers through Rhian’s hair, pulling her in close to kiss her.
