Work Text:
They do end up giving Wong, Doctor Strange, and Tony their full history, because if the nogitsune possession impacted their bonding, God knows what the rest of their experiences could do to Stiles’s magic. Wong agrees with Doctor Strange that it should be unbound as soon as possible—and that’s a relief, Stiles was a little afraid that particular offer would be yanked out from under him—and they don’t want any surprises when it happens.
So there’s a lot of talking first, but when they’re done, Wong just hums thoughtfully and then says, “Very well. We should move to one of the working rooms before we proceed. Follow me.”
The “working room” has stone walls and a stone floor and there are sigils carved into all of them. Looking up, Stiles spots sigils on the ceiling as well. When the door shuts behind Wong, Stiles can’t help shooting an uneasy glance at Peter.
Wong catches it. “The door is not locked,” he says, and gestures at it. Stiles hesitates, but Peter crosses the room and tests that reassurance.
“I know the ambiance is creepy, but you really can trust these two,” Tony says. Peter, despite knowing Tony, looks only marginally reassured. To be fair, he didn’t know until a couple hours ago that Tony knew anything about the supernatural.
“Let’s get this show on the road,” Stiles says. The sooner they start, the sooner they can leave the creepy room. “Where do you want me?”
Wong directs Stiles to sit on the floor, more or less near the center but not anywhere specific, at least in relation to the carved sigils. Peter sits behind him, with his hands resting on Stiles’s shoulders. Wong stands over him, with Stephen behind Wong and Tony with his hands on Stephen’s shoulders. “I will break the block,” Wong says. “Stephen will shield all of us.”
Well, that’s not ominous at all. “Is shielding necessary?” Stiles asks.
“Yes,” Wong says firmly. “Your magical potential is strong, and your mind has already been attacking the block. Raw magic is likely to burst forth like a geyser; that requires shielding.”
Stiles blows out a breath. “Right. Okay. We good to go?”
“I am ready,” Wong says. He waits until the rest of them confirm, then nods firmly at Stiles. “I will begin now.”
Stiles closes his eyes as Wong starts moving his hands. It just seems appropriate.
For a long minute, nothing seems to be happening. Stiles has just long enough to wonder if they’d made a mistake and then something… kind of… shudders. He doesn’t know how to describe it. The feeling is strangely internal, but not physical. It almost feels like the space where he’d met the nogitsune in his own mind, but not so alien, and he’s not really present there.
It shudders again.
And again.
Sudden trepidation floods Stiles. Maybe they shouldn’t be doing this. Maybe—
Whatever it is shatters.
It feels like a tornado tears through that space deep inside of Stiles, raging until it passes the boundaries of that space and then it's like it’s passing through his body, though his skin, and he feels like it ought to be tearing him apart but it isn’t. The storm rages and rages Stiles flails and there! There’s something strong, steady, a shelter from the storm. Stiles reaches for it.
It’s Peter.
Peter pulls in close, and Stiles burrows into Peter and waits for the storm to pass.
When everything feels quiet again, Stiles opens his eyes and discovers that he’s still sitting in place, Peter’s hands on his shoulders. None of that had been physical.
Well, maybe not none of it. Wong, Stephen, and Tony look distinctly wind-blown.
“I guess shields were a good idea, huh?” Stiles offers.
“Yeah,” Tony says, a little shaky. “They really were.”
Stephen gives Stiles a long, considering look. “We have a lot of work to do.”
