Work Text:
As Megumi looked up in the mirror he carefully ran his brush over his cheekbones to apply some decent blush on his skin. He decided to go with a negligible swing of eyeliner and some red eyeshadow to underline his lower lash line. He tried these subtle looks for some time now and started feeling really comfortable with the slight but noticeable embellishment of his eyes.
Finishing off with some highlights on the inner corners of his eyes he grinned towards his reflection and gazed in awe at his now perfected make-up look. He was really looking forward to going out with Nobara and Yuji this evening.
They planned this night for quite some time now since all of them were occupied with their freshly started jobs. Nobara had applied as a fashion designer for a freelancer she found through university. They hung out a flyer and as soon as Nobara finished her final exam she began working full-time in her first job.
Yuji on the other hand will have soon finished his studies to become a police officer or some kind of law-enforcing power. He pursued his grandpa’s last wish to assist as many people as much as he is capable of.
And Megumi planned on becoming an elementary school teacher to support kids in their youth as much as possible. So this is how everything was going so far and now Friday had arrived so in order to welcome their well-deserved weekend, they wanted to go out drinking at a bar.
Suddenly Megumi’s phone vibrated which displayed a new message by none other than Nobara. ‘ready to head out, pretty?’ it read to which Megumi easily texted ‘join me in the bus that comes at 7:37 by yours?’.
To that only a thumbs up followed and so Megumi stood up and considered his choice of clothing. Tonight Megumi wanted to wear his new pair of high-waist suit trousers that snug around his waist just perfectly. They were super comfortable and light so he could fully enjoy this evening.
His torso was covered by a white blouse adorned with frills on its neckline and shoulder pads that made him look slightly broader than he actually was. He wore some decent jewelry; his fingers were enhanced with silver rings. Each hand carried one on its pointy finger and his left hand had an additional ring on his pinky and his right carried a slightly thicker one on his thumb.
In total he wore two chains, one longer than the other carrying a divine dog in memory of his descendant dog. Tonight he even wore one earring on his left ear dangling near his shoulder due to its length.
Satisfied with his looks he was confident to go out only carrying his phone, keys and banking card. He took a look at his phone only to realize it was time to put on his shoes and get going.
Stepping out of his apartment into the foyer he locked his door and went outside. The cold spring breeze immediately hugged him unpleasantly and Megumi regretted instantly his lack of jacket. However, he had to catch this bus to meet up with Nobara and get there on time to not let Yuji wait in the cold.
So whatever, Megumi thought to himself. He wouldn’t be outside for too long anyway so he hurried to catch his bus.
The wait and drive were as ordinary as they could be, Megumi nonetheless couldn't anticipate finally meeting his friends and having a good night. Nobara eventually joined him and they chit chatted as usual. She bragged about her new job and plans what she wanted that new dress to look like.
Megumi silently swayed in the state of listening and not being expected to answer. From time to time he let out a ‘mhh’ and rarely even interrupted her to explain herself further. The time with her was so enjoyable to Megumi he couldn’t wish for more. She was his perfect counterpart in things of communication and Nobara indeed was his biggest ally to say the least.
She was there from the start when Megumi began exploring himself and realized he might be also into men or rather did not care about what gender his partner was, rather what kind of person they were. She gave him comfort no one else did and he was so incredibly grateful for that. Megumi would never be able to express his gratitude in words.
They soon reached their destination and already spotted Yuji waiting for them like a bodyguard. Yuji was buff to say the least. His golden retriever energy was not what his body was expressing at all. One might rather be scared than glad to see his figure. As soon as he spotted Megumi and Nobara his neutral expression disappeared like it wasn't there just seconds ago.
He wore a loose buttoned up paired with black slacks that fit him so well. Megumi must admit his friend looked more than fine. Then Yuji pulled Megumi out of his train of thoughts.
“Hey guys, did you get here safely? Megumi, are you by any chance cold? Your fit looks hella thin, uh- I mean it does look good on you but, you know…” he stumbled over his wording with honest worry in his tone. “Sure we did. And don't worry, dummy, we'll head in any minute, right?” Megumi answered suit, followed by Nobara “Hell yeah we are, drinks are inside not here, no?” chuckled, guiding both the guys on their sleeves inside the establishment.
Megumi let himself be carried away by Nobara. As they entered the bar a mock of warmth and alcohol steamed them in their faces but instead of making a face he inhaled the smell deep into his lungs invading all of his cells. He sucked the air in as if sucking on a cigarette despite the fact that he never once in his life touched one.
Nobara and Yuji chirped happily about how wasted they're going to get. Megumi only smiled to himself and agreed silently, having just the same plan. As they found a couch in the corner to sit on Megumi perceived the bass-heavy music that hummed through the air. It was subtle and drowned by the noise the guests were making, but Megumi perceived it nonetheless.
They sat at a corner table, Megumi in between his friends having a broad overview of the space, noticing all kinds of people, groups and pairs. Some seemingly just got to know each other, others seemed as familiar as the trio was.
“So, what are we gonna get, guys? For sure, some long drinks,” Nobara suggested. She showed them the menu and Megumi immediately spotted his favored long drink Vodka Lemon.
“I will have the Mojito they offer. It seems pretty fresh so I’ll take that” Yuji announced.
“Mhh.. I think I will go with a good ol’ Cuba Libre and surely Megs will have his Vodka Lemon as always.” she smiled towards Megumi.
“Yeah you got me,” he laughed. “Maybe I should try something else tonight,” Megumi wondered out loud. “The evening is still young so let's give it our best to find Megumi a new gem of a drink!!” Yuji exclaimed while he stood up to go order the drinks at the bar.
As Nobara started chatting again, Megumi’s eyes followed Yuji making his way over to the counter. When Yuji arrived at the other side of the establishment, he stood a few meters away from a business-like looking man who wore an overly formal outfit for a bar as cheap as this one.
He wore a matt black dress shirt which had its first button opened creating a minimal effect of casualness. The shirt was mainly covered by a greyish vest that made his chest look prominent, emphasising his broad abdomen. The third layer was a black suit matching the black dress shirt and keeping everything in place.
He didn’t know why this man stood out to him but to Megumi he didn’t seem to fit in. He was a little older than the three of them but in general fitted the general age average. He had bright hair that shimmered rosy in the dim lights. He then noticed Yuji returning with three glasses in his hands, visibly struggling but he somehow managed to reach their table without spilling or shattering one of their drinks.
They immediately started drinking and toasted to the evening that was aboit to begin. Nobara kept the conversation going and Megumi and Yuji interrupted, added thoughts and agreed to what she was saying. It was pleasant being with the two of them. He could easily let himself slip without having to worry about making him say something stupid or them judging him for that. They truly felt like home in a way nothing else could make him feel.
The third round was on Megumi so he strode towards the counter. On his way, a couple feet away from the counter he noticed that man again. Megumi was obviously intoxicated and ready to reach the state of drunkenness where he simply indulged in the feeling and let his surroundings stimulate his senses.
As he reached the bar he ordered their drinks then waited for them to be made. His gaze wandered due to his state of daze towards the man that had caught his attention since the beginning. The man, however, was already staring at him, seemingly interested as if he waited for Megumi to finally order their round of drinks since he seemed to have studied their ordering behaviour.
The man was to Megumi’s right caressing the rim of his whiskey glass while eyeing Megumi. He looked at him with awe in his eyes, keeping his distance and simultaneously drawing attention to himself. Megumi felt his body twitching from the attention he was given. He nervously picked at his fingers and sometimes dared to hush a glance or two. Megumi’s
heart skipped a beat as their eyes met.
This man didn’t feel intimidating, rather a tension building up between them despite the fact that they haven’t exchanged one fraction of words. Then. Megumi saw out of the corner of his eye that the man stood up and slowly made his way towards the shy boy.
“This is your third round, huh?” the man teased. “You and your friends seem to have an amusing time,” he continued trying to make a conversation between the two of them.
“Uh, yeah you could say that,” then Megumi tried his shot “And who exactly are you?”
“My name is Ryomen Sukuna,” a small pause, “and who am I honored to talk to?” Megumi turned red immediately, nearly choking on his non-existent words. As Megumi did not have a comeback to that he shyly answered “Uhm, I am Fushiguro” then with slight hesitation, “Megumi Fushiguro”.
“See Megumi, I know you are busy with those friends of yours but perhaps you could spare me some of your precious time, so that the mine that I spent here waiting for you wasn’t a total waste. I mean just looking at you was quite pleasant but, you know,” Sukuna trailed off. He didn’t shy away but for some reason couldn’t find the right words to finish his sentence.
“Uhm,” his mind went blank at that since he didn’t expect to actually meet someone tonight, especially a man that was just Megumi’s type. “I mean I just ordered a new round of drinks so I’ll have to finish that first before I deal with you, you know,” imitating the man in front of him.
The drinks which he ordered were slid over the counter so Megumi could pick them up. “Speak of the devil,” he sassily ended their conversation and left to return to his friends’ table. Walking off with an attitude kind of empowered Megumi to a certain degree and made him grace his walk with a swing of his hips.
He could practically feel Sukuna’s gaze pierce him from bottom to top. He searched for Nobara’s and Yuji’s eyes to find comfort and safety. As he arrived and placed the drinks he whisper-screamed “Guys! What was that?” stunned right away. Considering he didn’t expect to be spoken to by someone at the bar this night has turned into something quite interesting.
“What happened between the two of you?” Nobara exclaimed a little too enthusiastically for Megumi’s taste. “Well, I don’t know?!” he nearly adopted her excitement.
“He just stared at me for like the whole time and then stalked over with a hell of an attitude,” Megmi recapped. “What should I do?” he asked unsure.
“Well, was he, like, I don’t, weird?” Nobara asked and then Yuji added “I mean he seemed really interested but I don’t know,” he honestly expressed his concerns.
“To be honest I think I would, you know, give him a chance - but how?” Megumi frustratedly drew out. He dropped his head, not knowing how to pursue.
“He looks hella fine though,” Nobara noted indistinctly. Yuji nearly burst out laughing but held his laughter back by covering his mouth with his fist. “You are unbelievable and not helping at all,” he chuckled.
“You both are totally not helping, urgh,” Megumi cried out feeling left alone. This was a fairly new situation to Megumi, he groaned out loud trying to figure out how to proceed. “You should definitely give him a chance, I don’t wanna scare ya but this man is gazing at you right now in this moment like you’re his hangman's meal.” Nobara nonchalantly stated.
Without looking up he turned red and tried to compose himself by breathing calmly. He then felt a hand sneak on his left thigh, looking up to Yuji. “Hey, I think you should give it a shot," he tried to cheer Megumi up. Megumi lifted his head, looking for comfort in his eyes.
“I don’t wanna interrupt the two of you but guess who’s coming over right now,” Nobara interrupted them and sipped at her drink as if expecting something very entertaining to happen. Megumi’s head shot towards the man coming over, breaking their eye contact. He then locked eyes with Sukuna, his heart tremoring through his whole body.
All three of them watched the man’s actions closely as if getting ready to react anytime anything questionable was about to happen. As he reached their table Megumi held onto Yuji’s hand that was still on his thigh.
“I know you haven’t finished your drinks yet but I just wanna make sure that I’m not hitting on a taken guy,” he opened their conversation. At first Megumi didn’t know what Sukuna was
talking about but then immediately withdrew his hand form Yuji’s.
“Ah, no, don’t worry I am single,” he was clearly embarrassed. Never has someone assumed him and Yuji were dating so this wasn’t what Megumi expected at all for Sukuna to say.
“Okay, so then would you like to join a lonely man at the counter?” he requested softly, giving Megumi the option to reject him without Megumi feeling pressured to do so. Yuji and Nobara simply anticipated his answer since they didn’t want to interfere with Sukuna's approach to Megumi.
Megumi slightly panicked at Sukuna’s request to join him at the counter. His heart pounded with such a force against his chest and he felt his blood leave his limbs, his hands going cold, and rushing up his face. Suddenly everything felt so rushed. Then there was a hand on his thigh, a hand that had comforted him in several moments of breakdown when figuring out himself.
He slowly turned his head towards his Yuji who nodded in approval to encourage him. “You’ll be fine,” he whispered while simultaneously gripping his thigh again to reassure him. “Go get him, pretty” were Nobar’s last words to encourage Megumi before she turned to the broad man waiting for an answer, “When I see you pressing Megumi into anything, we’ll get to know us better than the two of you did tonight, got it?”.
She scolded him like a parent who couldn't let go of their beloved child. So before she could say any more embarrassing stuff Megumi took Sukuna’s hand and dragged him to the bar. As they reached the counter Megumi's heart was pounding like crazy and from all the haste he didn’t quite know what to say.
“You’ve got some good friends over there,” Sukuna chuckled, “Where did ya meet them?”.
As Megumi perceived his question Sukuna ordered two Gin Basil Smash while waiting for Megumi’s answer.
“Yeah, you’re right, they are amazing friends. I actually met them during highschool, we were the only students taking a sports course and became really close pretty fast,” Megumi didn't know what else to add since talking wasn’t one of his strenghts.
“What kind of course were you three taking?” he asked genuinely.
“Jiu jitsu, I know it’s an odd sport but it is actually super fun, you know,” Megumi answered while leaning his head to the side. “Oh, I know it is fun. My brother does Jiu jitsu on a high level for his age,” Sukuna added to Megumi’s surprise.
“Woah, that is awesome, I barely know people who do Jiu jitsu,” Megumi exclaimed and continued, “how old is your brother then?”.
“He’s a little brat, just turned seventeen,” Sukuna smiled to himself as if thinking of a dumb little brother that loves going on his nerves.
“May I ask how old you are,” the raven haired boy asked shyly.
“Don’t be too shocked, I am 31,” a small pause, then “Do you mind?” he asked teasingly with a deep crispy voice. Megumi turned red immediately since he didn’t realize his age earlier, but Megumi didn’t feel off or uncomfortable. Quite the opposite, he felt some kind of pride swell in his chest since he seemed to come off as appealing to a man in his thirties.
Just as he was about to answer, the bartender slid their drinks in front of them and instead of answering, Megumi said “Thank you,” and smiled towards the bartender. Suddenly he felt a hand placed on his cheek turning his head towards Sukuna. Megumi noticed the expanse and warmth of Sukuna’s hand and nearly wanted to let his head weight down on the hand in comfort.
It has been so long since he’s been touched. Now there was an attractive man in front of him making him feel excited and wanted.
“I asked you a question, darling,” Sukuna broke Megumi’s moment of swaying, still holding Megumi’s right side of the face in his right hand.
“Uhm- no, I don’t mind it at all” Megumi tried to avoid his gaze. He felt like Sukuna was devouring him just by gazing at him.
“I see how it is,” Sukuna continued. “I assume you’re not as old as me but how much younger are you exactly. Maybe four years younger, six or even eight years, mmhh?” he wondered out loud, making Megumi feel embarrassed about his age.
“It is.. nine years,” Megumi mumbled, feeling as if he’d melt right then and there. He prayed that this wouldn't turn his opposite seated partner off. So to prevent any awkward moment he raised his right hand to carefully remove Sukuna’s hand. He took his Gin Basil Smash and sipped a few times to get to know the taste, since this was his first.
It tasted fresh and not bitter at all, it was a pleasant taste on his tongue; not too sweet, just right.
“Is that too young for you?” Megumi asked hesitant but desperately, feeling like his chance was squandered.
“Look at me,” Sukuna didn’t touch him this time. Megumi gripped his glass tight and looked up to him shyly.
“If you’re worried that I won’t be interested in you anymore, you’re not quite right, darling.” he soothed. “This might sound a bit.. ugh - but I’m super into you and I find you so damn attractive.”
Megumi’s face heated up right then and there, his breath hitched and suddenly felt the urge to hold Sukuna’s hand. What was this man doing to him?
“Uhm.. thank you,” said smiling, Megumi felt an inner satisfaction that his endeavours at home were acknowledged by an incredibly attractive man.
“How do you like the Gin Basil Smash, Megumi?” Sukuna made him look up and then back to his drink as if he could taste it just by looking at it.
“It is surprisingly pleasant, I mean I’m used to Lemon Vodka, so this is really nice, thank you” Megumi rambled.
“I’m glad it’s to your liking..” Sukuna seemed to mumble to himself.
“I wonder, are you into men older than you,” Sukuna took a sip while closely watching Megumi in his way of being. Megumi felt twitchy all over his body like Sukuna could right see under his clothes.
“No, actually I’ve been figuring myself out lately, so I don’t have any experience with men in general.” he took another sip “But you seem nice..” Megumi dared to say.
He definitely felt the alcohol rummaging through his body and loosening him up. “I hope we get along well,” he mindlessly said. Surprised by his suddenly formal tone. He added “Sorry, that sounded weird,”.
“Oh, but you behave quite appropriately. Being polite to your elders is taught in school, little one,” Sukuna smirked. At the new nickname Megumi’s heated up for the hundredth time since he met Sukuna. He was so sly and charismatic, Megumi could barely handle it.
“Mind if I…” Sukuna pointed to his thigh while raising his right hand to symbolize where it should go.
“Why even bother asking?” Megumi cheekily replied. “I still got my manners, you know. Just because I am a geezer doesn’t mean I don't know how to treat a gorgeous person like you, okay?”
At that Megumi smiled to himself, taking another sip then looking at Sukuna, anticipation reflected in his eyes. Nonetheless he just sat there, waiting for Sukuna to make a move. Sukuna on the other hand did the exact same, awaiting Megumi’s next move. Soon he noticed Megumi was more than shy therefore took the initiative and gently placed his vast hand und Megumi’s left thigh.
With that Sukuna took a nonchalantly large sip. Megumi, in turn, felt Sukuna’s possessiveness practically coat him whole. He desperately wanted to give in but bared in mind they were in a public space and couldn’t be too affectionate. To an outstander this probably just looked like a protective gesture and Megumi felt incredibly proud about that. His chest swelling with something he couldn’t name nor has ever felt before.
Sukuna was so thrilling Megumi could get used to it. In response to the gesture, he placed his own hand on Sukuna’s lightly gripping it. As a result Sukuna’s hand pressed onto his own thigh which made him feel even more excited.
“What do you do for a living?” Megumi asked, to Sukuna's delight.
“I teach youngsters like you at university. Want to guess what I teach?” he teased him while also giving him the chance to speak some more.
“You seem like a well-educated geezer… perhaps history or engineering. If I’m being honest one could also assume you teach any kind of sport based on your obvious feature, your muscle building.” he rambled uncontrollably. Then a lewd thought formed in his head. What if he could capture Sukuna’s muscles by simply touching them.
His eyes roamed Sukuna’s arms as if planning on devouring them. Sukuna immediately observed Megumi’s movement of eyes and in response squeezed his thigh. Megumi’s breath hitched which made him stop his action in a blink of an eye.
“Uhm.. well?” he prompted.
“History was a pretty accurate guess, I teach the history of arts. Does that fit a buff guy like me, huh?” Sukuna looked at him curiously while finishing his drink.
“Mmhh, I’d say yes. What makes it cool is the field. Art is so amazing, you know.” Megumi didn’t know what he was saying at this point, he just wanted to keep the conversation going.
He took a look at his glass and dumped in the last bit of his Gin and leaned onto Sukuna. At that Sukuna smiled, which Megumi couldn’t see but everyone else could and suddenly they looked like a young couple who just recently made it official.
“Mind if I go home soon. I feel hella dizzy but not in a bad way, I just don’t wanna be hungover tomorrow, you know.” Megumi squeezed Sukuna’s hand.
“Of course not, want me to order you an Uber?” Megumi could feel his voice rumbling through his body and its vibrations transferred to Megumi’s.
“But you don’t even know where I live, dummy,” he spoke indistinctly.
“Well, do you trust me with giving me your address, darling,” Sukuna put an arm around Megumi’s shoulder so he could lean onto him more. Sukuna put a twenty dollar bill on the counter and then guided them out of the bar.
When they left the establishment fresh air danced around his nose. He felt as if he took a proper breath for a long time. They broke out of their bubble but it was still just them so the moment was yet not over. Megumi registered a warmth enclosing him though he wasn’t cold. The alcohol warmed from the inside, he nonetheless accepted Sukuna’s jacket while leaning onto the man.
“The Uber will be there in a couple of minutes,” Sukuna reassured. He grasped Megumi’s shoulder while typing on his phone with his other hand. Megumi didn’t mind since he just swelled in the moment and warmth that he hedged in.
“By the way, I live at,” but before he finished his sentence he leaned up to Sukuna’s ear and whispered his address to him. “It’s a secret between the two of us, got it?” Megumi smiled because he felt silly playing coy. “And you know what else..” Megumi waited for Sukuna to look down at him.
Sukuna then looked down at him with a glimpse of awe in his eyes. “Yeah, darling?” he whispered. With that Megumi leaned up to Sukuna and kissed him on his lips. He stood on his tiptoes so he met Sukuna in the middle. Megumi caught Sukuna off guard so at first he didn’t press back but soon leaned in so Megumi felt a little push and slowly let himself back on his feet.
In order to get a steady hold, the smaller boy grasped at Sukuna’s arm, feeling his muscles for the first time this evening. At the realization Megumi got weak and nearly fell backwards if Sukuna didn’t secure him at his back. Their bodies slowly inched closer and Megumi could feel the warmth that was radiating off of the broad man’s body.
Interrupted by a honk, Megumi immediately shied away clearing his throat, visibly embarrassed about the fact that they got caught. Sukuna just smiled at him as if still mentally being in the kiss with Megumi.
“Uhm, I better get going,” he nervously looked at Sukuna, still holding one of his hands connecting them while also holding on to the moment. “I’m sure we’ll meet again,” Megumi bid farewell while squeezing Sukuna’s hand and taking his leave to head to the cab. “Of course, I will find you, darling. Trust me with that,” he reassured Megumi and drew Megumi one last time to himself to kiss him goodbye on his forehead.
He then let him go and watched Megumi get in the back of the Uber, taking one last look at Sukuna. The man who still stood on the walkway just took in the picture of Megumi leaning against the window with staring eyes fixed on him. Sukuna was sure to meet this boy again and take things further than being strangers.
In response, he laughed at himself for thinking so primitive. He truly felt like a teenager dumbly in love watching his interest leave the scene like they would portray it in these romances.
“Bye Megumi,” he whispered to himself as if no one could hear him. He still hoped Megumi wouldn’t mind their age difference. In the end Megumi was still so innocent and young.
