Work Text:

The people of Neo Chiyoda were clearly upset. Otori Ojiro had returned after going missing, revealing his true identity live on television. What was Q thinking?

“We need to talk. In private.”
Kazuki pulled Ojiro aside with a tense, upset tone just as the broadcast ended.

“Uh… sure.”
Ojiro nodded, following him into an empty room.

Kazuki stood in front of his childhood friend, no, it was more than that. They weren’t just friends. They were playful lovers, always stealing little moments; holding pinkies when no one was watching, sharing a quick kiss behind closed doors. But now? Kazuki just stared at him, eyes conflicted, heart heavy.

“Why are you doing this, Oji…?” he asked softly, looking up at the masked man. “We promised each other we wouldn’t go back to the past.”

Q- no, Ojiro said nothing. He just stood there, guilt in his eyes, weighed down by the decision to show his face to Chiyoda again.

“Kazuki…” he finally began.

“No. You know damn well people resent you for what happened. Why are you doing this? What if someone tries to hurt you?” Kazuki snapped, his voice rising. “Ojiro… don’t you get it? People will see you as the enemy!”

“I know what I’m doing,” Ojiro murmured. His white hair caught the dim light. “I can’t let this maniac destroy the city… our home. My light, please try to understand.”

Kazuki sighed. Ojiro was still as stubborn as ever.

“I want to believe in you. I really do. Just… be careful, okay?”

Ojiro stepped forward and pulled Kazuki into a deep hug, arms wrapped tight around him. Kazuki finally broke, the tears falling as he pressed his head to Ojiro’s chest, listening to the heartbeat he’d missed for so long. Ojiro rested his chin on Kazuki’s head, eyes gazing up at the ceiling.

“I adore you most when you’re honest with your heart, my light.”

“…Oh, shut up.”
