“I think…” a guide to compulsive heterosexuality

Summary:

From the author of independency but… a lot more self indulgent…. And nothing like independency (although it could count as an au of independency’s universe? Considering they won’t act AS evil as they do in canon…)

Self discovery is a weird thing, isn’t it, Candy Apple?

Work Text:

Candy Apple stared over at the vast people in the market, watching as people rummage around in their wallets and sneak glances at things too pricey for them to buy. Her eyes fall on a pretty woman’s face a few times, biting the inside of her cheek as she feels flames dust her face… a lemony cookie, no doubt about it. She tears her gaze away reluctantly, staring down at her own self. Some silly gothic Lolita getup and Mary Jane’s. Glancing back up at this lemon cookie, she feels almost… upset. She wants this girl to pay attention to her. To look at her and smile. Perhaps bump into each other.

“Candy Apple? Where are you staring at?” She hears a familiar voice, and she glances up to see Black Sapphire. The boy who had been there since she was perhaps even born. Surely he would understand?

“Do you even feel… jealous when a girl glances the other way?” She mumbles, her stare being directed back to the way the lemon cookie moved ever so gracefully. A sundress puffy around the girls thighs, swirling around her like a princess. Black Sapphire looked rather confused… “No, can’t say I have. Never minded much for that sort of thing… why?”

“I want her to look at me.” She mumbles simply, as if it’s the easiest thing ever. But her heart pounds, pushing against her chest and her feet feel like she might just crumple to the ground… “I’m sorry, hand me the shopping list. I’d like a distraction…”

As they walk ahead, he peers over her shoulder. “You’re awfully quiet, aren’t’cha, Candy?” He mumbles, pointing out to the next aisle they need to walk in. She just hums softly, a quiet acknowledgement. Perhaps she has been… but who can blame her? She’s so caught up on the fact these feelings aren’t quite ones she’s felt before.

It can’t be love, right? She felt that for Shadow milk.

She thinks…

She’s never felt love before, but she’s, like 99% sure it’s utter devotion and obsession, right?

Shopping passes by quickly enough, with her stopping occasionally to glance at pretty passerby’s. It’s gotten to the point Black Sapphire eventually grabbed her hand and brought her back to the spire himself.

She sighs, standing up as she stares down the familiar blue door. The one she’s barged into numerous times, the one she’s invaded like she owned this, too. Why is it that she’s so anxious to even knock? Lifting her fist, and knocking quietly, Shadow Milk himself opens the door.

“Ohhh, it’s you? Have you come back from shopping? Ah, forget it, I know you have! You took an awful long time shopping, didn’t you?” She hears his rather shrill voice pierce the silence, and she shrugs, glancing to the side. “Eh, I suppose… um, listen… have you ever felt… like you’re all weak and about to pass out when you find a girl who looks pretty…?”

Shadow Milk leans closer to her, blinking twice. “Huh… no, I don’t think I’ve felt that in millennia, but even then that wasn’t in regards to any person in particular… just came down with a sickness. why is it you ask?”

She sighs, looking up at him yet again “I felt embarrassed for my childish outfit… I saw a pretty girl and wanted her eyes to be on me… almost the same way I feel for you, except dull and a lot more softer…?” She bites her nail, trying to recall the moment… “it’s like when I saw her, my heart stopped, my breathing stuck between my lungs… my face was all fiery but it was cold! Which I guess isn’t like the way I feel about you… because I just feel like you’re someone I should trust and assist to, you know…? Sort of overlapping symptoms but it’s like… my brain loves you but my body feels apathetic. Almost the opposite of how I felt with her…” she whines, scoffing at herself… “it’s so stupid! I don’t understand!”

“Candy Apple… you do know what lesbianism is… right?”

She pauses for a moment, wracking her brain…

“N…no…? Should I? What is it?” She stepped back and he sighed.
“Do you ever feel that way about men.” He says simply, expressing it with his hands.
“No! Most men are just… there. But women catch my attention! Unless a man is really ugly, that’s when all my attention goes to him… yuck.” She winces at the imagination, and Shadow Milk puts a nail to his chin, tapping it in thought. “You’re a lesbian. You’re into women!” He points at her, finding it out.

She stares up at him… “but I thought I was into you?”

“Obsession and devotion is different from love. The technical term you felt is Compulsively Heterosexual, oftentimes shortened to comphet.” He had responded, flippant, before handing her a book. Huh.

stocking the book away, the last thing Candy Apple saw that night was the sweet face of the citrus woman…
