Chapter Text
“Seriously? I was kidnapped? Again?” Perseus Jackson said aloud, “This is, like, the third time! Give it a rest!”
“No wonder the regular population thinks the Greeks were crazy,” he thought, “with gods like these-” he cut himself off when a piece of paper appeared on the desk in the middle of the room.
Percy had, ten-some minutes earlier, woken up in a wooden room with no windows or doors and a desk in the center. There was no chair at the desk, its wood was just a few shades lighter than that of the rest of the room. The room itself was pooled in low-quality fluorescent-shade light, though there was no sign of any lightbulbs anywhere in the room, no matter where Percy looked.
“Wait. Dang it Percy, focus” he told himself, “ADHD is not an excu- well, it is an excuse for not focusing, anyways, focus on the paper!”
Breathing out a sigh, Percy walked over to the desk and picked up the piece of paper. It was folded perfectly smooth and sharp, as if done by a machine. When he unfolded it, he was surprised to see words on it were written in neat, perfect ancient Greek. So, since his dyslexia wasn’t affecting him, he began to read:
Dear Percy Jackson,
Welcome to the Hall of Myths. My name is The All-Sight, but you may call me Tas. I have brought you here for a very important reason. As you know, there are multiple mythologies in your world. Roman, Norse, Egyptian, and of course, Greek.
But what you probably didn't know was that in other worlds, other mythologies exist. Chinese, Hindu, Bengali, Maya, Mexica, and Mesopotamian, and guess what? You are the most powerful modern-day person with the God’s favor from your mythology! So, I have gathered everyone who is the most powerful person with a God’s favor from their mythology, and today you will all be meeting! Exciting, isn’t it?
Here is a list of the people you will be meeting, and what mythology they are from, you might even recognize a few:
Greek: Perseus ‘Percy’ Jackson
Roman: Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano
Norse: Magnus Chase
Egyptian: Carter and Sadie Kane
Chinese: Astrid Xu
Hindu: Arundhati ‘Aru’ Shah
Bengali: Kiranmala ‘Kiran’ Ray
Aztec: Zane Obispo and Ren Santiago
Mexica: Ren Santiago
Mesopotamian: Sikander ‘Sik’ Aziz
Once you have finished reading this message, a door will appear on the wall in front of you. Please go through.
Sincerely,
The All-Sight, A.K.A, Tas
“Great, just great” thought Percy. He looked from the paper, and sure enough, there was a door across from him that hadn’t been there before.
“Well,” thought Percy, “here goes nothing.”
He walked through.
-
When Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano exited out the other side of the door, she was in an infinity room. The door she had exited out of was one out of a circle of 11 doors. As she stepped out of her’s, one person came out of each door around the circle. Reyna could only recognize a few. One of the people she could recognize was Percy Jackson, who stepped out of the door next to her.
“Hello Percy,” she said, nodding to her friends and fellow demigod.
“Hey Renya” Percy responded, glancing across the space “I seriously thought that Hera had kidnapped me again when I woke up.” The boy groaned, dragging a hand across his face, “Man, Annabeth’s gonna kill me, I have classes today!”
“Hmm” Reyna hummed, amused, “I’ll put in a good word with New Rome College that you were kidnapped by a divine being against your will… again. Once we get out of here, that is. Until then, now what?”
“No idea,” said Percy, shrugging his shoulders “but we should probably meet up with Carter, Sadie, and Magnus. It said on the list they’d be here, and I think I’ll believe it, since it said you’d be here too.”
“Good idea,” said Sadie, appearing out of nowhere.
Percy jumped, clutching his heart as he whirled around to face the girl. “When did you get here?” he asked, eyes widening.
“Just now” said Carter, responding for his little sister, “Sorry about Sadie, she’s more of a “arrive now, tell everyone later” kinda person.”
“I’ll… go grab Magnus” said Reyna, turning and walking away from the group with an amused smirk.
Reyna had met Magnus Chase, cousin of Annabeth Chase, exactly once, when she and Percy had invited Frank, Hazel, and herself to lunch to meet him. Him and Annabeth looked similar, Reyna being able to tell they were related by the second glance, but you could really tell they were family by the way they interacted with each other.
It had been a good day, they got attacked by Chimera (which was a whole other story), but it was still nice. Thalia had been excited by the news that Annabeth still had a living biological family, even if they were a part of the demigod community, and an entirely different mythology at that.
From what Reyna could tell, Percy’s door had Reyna’s own to its right, and Carter and Sadie’s to the left. If that trend continued, then…
Reyna walked to the door to the right of her own just as Magnus stepped out. “Odin’s last remaining eye” he said, glazing around as his eyes widened.
“Hello Magnus” said Reyna, stepping up to the blonde haired boy.
“Hey…” he said, “Reyna, right?”
Reyna nodded, and Magnus’s shoulders relaxed slightly. “Come” said Reyna, “The others are over here.”
Carefully, because you could never be too cautious as a demigod, Magnus followed Reyna across the room, back over to the small group the four- now five -children had formed.
“This better not be a trap” said Magnus as they approached, loud enough for the others to here, “I’ve already died once, I’m not doing it again.”
“Nice to see you too Magnus” said Percy, “Let me introduce you to Carter and Sadie Kane of Brooklyn House. They’re Egyptian magicians.”
“I’m Magnus Chase” the boy introduced himself to the siblings, “I’m a Norse demigod.”
“Are you in any way related to Annabeth Chase?” Sadie asked, “You look a sadder version of her.”
“ Sadie ” Carter groaned, placing one of his hands on his face, “I’m Carter, the older and more mature one. My sister is the one without tact.”
“At least I have a normal love life.”
Carter raised a single eyebrow, and Sadie backed down. “Alright, alright, maybe that was a bad comparison” Carter’s eyebrow rose further, “Alright, it was a really bad comparison. Bloody heck.”
“It’s fine,” said Magnus, “And Annabeth’s my cousin.”
“Ah, so you are related to her,” said Sadie, smirking, “But I doubt you’re as smart as her.”
“ Sadie ” Carter hissed.
Reyna turned away from the group. Four of the other six people in the infinity room were still standing at, what Reyna assumed was their own, doors, surveying the room, or, infinite expanse, from them. The other two were nearby one door, seeming to have an argument.
One was a boy with black hair and warm brown eyes that seemed to shift to an also-warm olive every so often, one of his legs shorter than the other, and he had a cane. The other was a girl who had short, cool brown hair and ocean blue eyes, a glowing golden rope tied to a belt at her hip. The girl waved her arms above her head wildly for a moment before placing them at her sides, mouth moving with a seemingly argumentative tone. The boy pinched the bridge of his nose before he looked as if he was sighing and waved his arms to the center of the circle of doors, as if saying ‘go right ahead’ . The girl huffed, crossed her arms, then walked to the center of the circle of doors, and began to speak.
“Uhh, hi” she said meekly, but loud enough for everyone to hear, “you don’t know me, but my name is Ren Santiago. I was thinking that maybe we could all talk, and kind of, introduce ourselves?” “I know what you're thinking,” Ren continued, “ ” We just met her” , but this Tas person, they said they wanted us to meet. So actually meeting each other might be the only way to make it home.”
Everyone was silent for a moment before a boy with dark black hair and almost equally dark brown eyes spoke. “I’m Sikander Aziz, but you can call me Sik” he said, “and I agree with Ren. We should at least talk to try to find a way out of here.”
That was enough for everyone to walk to the center of the circle of doors and sit in a circle, Ren sitting next to the boy she had been arguing with and giving him a ‘I told you so’ look.
“So, I guess I’ll start” said Ren, “I already said it, but I’ll say it again, my name is Ren Santiago. I’m from Arizona, at least, in my world. Wait, does the U.S. exist in every world. Are you guys, like, I from the ancient myths?” Ren asked.
“Oh no,” said Sadie, shaking her head, “all modern around here. Can you imagine me in ancient Egypt?” That got a few laughs, as well as noises of confirmation that no, they were not from the ancient myths, and yes, the U.S. does exist .
“Fewf, all right, that makes things easier. I know it said on the list that we were all from modern day, but, ya’ know, you can never be too careful ” said Ren, “Continuing, as you probably saw on the list, I’m listed on two mythologies, that’s because I’m from both. My father is a magician from the Mexica mythology, and my Mom is Pacific, the Mayan Goddess of the Sea and Time.”
“Well, that’s it for me” said Ren, shrugging “Who wants to go next?”
“I’ll go,” said the boy that Reyna had seen her talking with before, “My name is Zane Obispo, and I’m from New Mexico. I’m the son of Hurakan, one of the two Mayan creator gods and God of Storms, Wind, and Fire.” “If you haven’t already guessed, me and Ren already know each other. We met last year when she nearly killed me” -Percy and another girl, one with a warm skin tone and a long black braid, snorted at that- “and I was also appointed by Itzamna, the god of stories, to rewrite history.”
The girl with the braid, the one who had had the same reaction as Percy just moments before, her eyes widened. “Uhh, how does that work?” she asked.
“Basically, Itzamna can have a ‘chosen’. That gives them the ability for anything they write to become true, including a new history” said Zane, “After Ixkik, Goddess of the Blood Moon, destroyed all the pages with history, I was tasked with rewriting it so that history could be remembered. I’m less rewriting history and more fixing what was broken.”
“I’ll go next,” said Sadie. “Hello, my name is Sadie Kane, and this is my older brother, Carter.” Carter gave a small wave.
“Now I know what you’re probably thinking, ‘these two look nothing alike, how can they be siblings?’ ” When Sadie said that, and the girl with the braid snorted again . “Well, I spent most of my life in Britain, and Carter spent most of his life in Egypt,” Sadie continued, undisturbed, “anyways, I should probably say this now so that there isn’t confusion later , but Carter and I, Reyna,” she pointed to Reyna, “Percy” she pointed to Percy, “and Magnus,” she pointed to Magnus, “are all from the same world, so we have four mythologies.”
“Well, we have two” said Zane, “anyone else with multi-mythological worlds, at least, as far as they know?” The others shook their heads. “Okay, good, please continue… Sadie” said Zane, remembering her name.
Sadie nodded, then said “So in our mythology, the gods don’t have relationships with mortals. Instead, a magician will host a god or follow it’s path, giving them the power for that god. But becoming a god’s host is risky, because it can drive a person mad. Especially if you become their Eye.”
“Becoming a god’s Eye means you and the god basically become one” Carter explained, “I’m saying this from experience.”
“Following a god’s path is a lot simpler,” said Sadie, elbowing her brother for interrupting her, “Basically you find what kind of magic you specialize in, and then you follow the path of the god that magic is from. I used to host Isis, Goddess of Magic, I can still host her when needed, but for now I just follow her path. I specialize in Elemental magic and just straight up magic.”
“Same with me and Horus” said Carter, “Horus is the God of War, I used to host him, now I follow his path. I specialize in combat and Combat magic.”
There was silence for about 15 seconds until Reyna sighed. “I guess I’ll go now” she said, “Greetings, my name is Reyna. I’m the daughter of Bellona, the Roman goddess of War. You might know her Greek form better, Eris, goddess of jealousy and sister of Ares. I’m also a hunter of Diana, though, once again, you might know her better in her Greek form, Artemis. I was formerly a Praetor, a leader of a Roman legion, before I gave the position over to my friend, Hazel, daughter of Pluto, Roman god of the Underworld and Riches, Greek form Hades.”
“I thought all the Roman legions were killed in the fall of Rome?” said a girl with black hair in a low bun, eyes black but flecked with amber.
“All but the Twelfth Legion,” said Reyna, nodding in acknowledgment, “they hid and eventually made it to America, where they created Camp Jupiter, a haven for Roman demigods.”
“I’m gonna stop you there-” said Percy, “-because 1, it’s a good place for me to start, and 2, you're leaving out a pretty important detail.”
“Oh, right” said Reyna, eyes widening at her own forgetfulness “go ahead.”
Percy nodded. “Anyways” he said, “before Camp Jupiter was created, there was Camp Half-Blood, a haven for Greek and Roman demigods that was created by Apollo, Greek god of the Sun and a whole lot more. But then a war started between them, so the gods separated and erased their memories of each other. The Greek demigods stayed at Camp Half-Blood, and the Roman created Camp Jupiter.”
“I’m Percy by the way” he said, “son of Poseidon, Greek god of the Sea, Horses, and Earthquakes. I’m, uh, Greek, and a Hero of Olympus.”
Percy fidgeted for a moment after he finished, and Magnus took his chance. “My turn” he said, “Hi, I’m Magnus Chase, Son of Frey, Norse god of kingship, fertility, peace, prosperity, fair weather, and good harvest.”
“That’s a lot of things,” said the girl with the braid.
“Yeah” said Magnus, “anyways, most demigods in Norse mythology don’t learn their demigods until after they die.”
The silence was deafening.
“Excuse me, what?” said braid girl.
“I’ll explain,” said Magnus.
“Please do,” said Sik, voice coming out tense.
“So, does anyone here know about Valhalla?” asked Magnus. When everyone nodded, he let out a sigh of relief. “Good” he said, “so basically, if you’re a demigod who dies and goes to Valhalla, your powers are unlocked so you can fight in Odin’s army for Ragnarok.”
“Like the Marvel movie?” asked braid girl.
“ No ,” said Magnus, “ nothing like the movies. Like, does Loki have a ship made of human nail clippings in the movies? No. No he does not.” Braid girl shivered, seemingly at the thought of a ship made of human nails.
“I guess I’ll go next,” said the girl with the bun. “Hello, my name is Astrid Xu, and in my world, we have Chinese mythology, and there are no demigods, I’m just a normal human, well, mostly.”
“How so?” asked Magnus.
“Well, basically, all the Chinese myths take place in a different world” said Astrid, “In our world, there was a scroll with a prophecy that I found. It turned out the person who broke the seal on the scroll was the person that the prophecy applied to.”
“Let me guess,” said braid girl, “You broke the seal?”
“Yeah,” said Astrid, “how did you know?”
“Experience,” said braid girl.
“So, after I broke the seal, my sister and I got transported to the world of Chinese myths” said Astrid, “only, the scroll was only supposed to transport one person, so my sister got turned into a talking cat. It turned out my music from my clarinet could be used for magic, and, later on it got broken, but then I fixed it with magic music wood and an apple of immortality.”
“Your myths also have apples of immortality?” asked Percy and Magnus in unison.
Astrid nodded, then continued. “Anyways, the prophecy was for me to defeat the evil snake, Chaos, which I did, and I saved the mythological world.”
“You also have a Chaos snake?” asked Sadie. Astrid nodded again.
“Something my Dad would always say was that there were a lot of similarities between myths,” said Carter.
“It’s like what Annabeth said,” said Reyna, “it’s all connected.”
“I don't know who this “Annabeth” person is, but they sound smart,” said Sik.
“You have no idea,” said Percy.
“Anyways,” said braid girl, interrupting, “looks like it’s my turn.”
“Hi, my name is Arundhati Shah, but feel free to call me Aru,” she said “and in my world, we have Hindu mythology. The gods basically had six children, A.K.A. the Pandava Brothers, a bajillion years ago, and that’s it. Those six demigods get reincarnated over and over, and wham ka-blam, you have me.”
“I’m the reincarnation of Arjuna” Aru continued, “He was the son of Indra, god of storms and Lord of the Heavens, considered to be the most powerful Pandava Brother.”
“How did you find out you were a reincarnation?” asked Astrid.
“Lit a cursed lamp” Aru responded.
“Ah.”
“Anyways, it released the Sleeper, who was supposed to end time, and long story short, found the other reincarnated Pandava Brothers, or sisters now, and in an even longer story we defeated him and stopped him from getting the nectar of immortality.”
“Sheesh” said Percy, “your life sounds almost as bad as mine.”
“Have you been to the underworld?” asked Aru.
“Actually, yeah, multiple times,” said Percy.
“Have you been to the underwater palace of the sea god?”
“Mmm hmm.”
“Were you betrayed by someone you thought you could trust?”
“... Are you just me from another reality?” asked Percy.
“It seems like it,” said Sadie.
“Wait, the final test” said Aru, “do your friends think of you as a sort-of idiot even though you're also kind-of the leader?”
“... I’m adopting you, you're my sister now.”
“Annabeth will flip you” said Carter, “...again.”
“Yeah, I don’t know how she deals with you already,” said Magnus, “but two?” He shuddered at the thought.
“Hey!” said Percy, “I’m not that bad, otherwise she would have broken up with me a long time ago.”
“True” said Sadie tilting her head in agreement.
“I guess it’s my turn,” said a girl with a braid like Aru’s, but looser, and a loopy scar on her arm. She hadn’t spoken until now. “Hello, my name is Kiranmala Ray, but please call me Kiran. I’m from Bengali mythology. In my world, all the stories that were created thousands of years ago are playing out now, rather than, well, thousands of years ago.”
“Wait” said Percy, “It’s not a repeat of something that already happened?”
“Nope” said Kiran, shaking her head, “Anyways, there was this story about how the Moon Maiden, Chandi, married the Serpent King, Shesha, and had seven sons. Shesa turned them all into one snake, Naga. So when Chandi had a daughter, who was born with the moon symbol as a scar on the back of her neck, she sent her away to protect her.”
“Let me guess, things were all well and fine until they got attacked,” said Aru, “That’s what always happens in the stories.”
Kiran nodded, humming. “The family that was taking care of the daughter, a couple of farmers, was attacked, so they fled to the human realm with her, but not before she was injured, leaving her with a snake symbol scar on her arm.”
“You're the daughter,” said Reyna, nodding to the scar she described on her arm.
Kiran nodded again. “Yeah” she said, “I’m the demigod child of Chandi, the Moon Maiden, or Goddess, I guess could be more appropriate, and Shesha, The Serpent King.”
“So you're royalty?” asked Carter.
“Sort of?” said Kiran, “My father always kinda hated me, but then he ceased to exist, and the Serpent Kingdom is in shambles, but no one is expecting me to rule, so… I am Princess Kiranmala, but I’m not really all that… princessy .”
There was a bout of silence as everyone digested Kiran’s words, before Sik groaned dramatically.
“Welp, guess that just leaves me,” he said.
“I guess it does,” Zane agreed.
Sik took a breath, then began to speak. “Hello, my name is Sikander Aziz, but please feel free to call me Sik, spelled S-i-k” he said, “in my world, we have Mespotainian mythology, though only three of the gods are really relevant.”
Everyone was silent for a few minutes before Percy said “Excuse me, what?”
“That’s so unfair!” said Aru, “I’ve had to deal with, like, twenty gods!”
“Same!” said most the group
“Yeah” said Sik, wincing “Two of them are also dead, and the last one is the goddess of the underworld, so she’s already in the underworld.”.
“Lucky” muttered Magnus.
“Ehh, I wouldn’t say that” said Sik, “the entirety of Manhattan was turned into creatures called Poxies by the plague god Nergal to hunt me down because he thought I knew the location of the flower of immortality.”
“Oof” said Percy, “that’s rough buddy.”
“Yeah,” said Sik, “anyways, long story short I was found by Belet, adopted daughter of Ishtar, goddess of love and war, and Ishtar was killed by Nergal protecting me from him. Got run over by a train and then found out that I had gotten some sap from the flower of immortality in my blood, so I was now immortal-”
“Wait, hold up” said Aru, “You're immortal?”
“Yep” said Sik, “it was completely by accident too, but I am.”
“How old are you?” asked Percy.
“Still thirteen” said Sik, “This all happened to me about… 7 months ago?”
“Ah” said Percy, nodding in seemingly relief.
“Anyways,” Sik continued, “I met Gilgamesh, an ancient Mesopotamian hero who was also immortal, who helped me get to the underworld, where I met my dead brother, Mo, Ishtar, and her sister Ninurta, the goddess of the underworld and hunting, who was also the wife of Negral and mad at her husband. My brother helped me find another flower of immortality, and then Belet and I used it to defeat Nergal. End of story.”
“Wow, sounds fun” said Sadie, “also, what’s with all these things that give immortality? Apples, nectar, and now flowers? One day I might stumble across some ancient plant and blam, immortal.” Everyone laughed at Sadie’s statement, but they also could help but wonder what else could be out there that could turn regular people into immortal warriors.
There was silence for another few minutes before Zane spoke. “So, what should we do now?” he asked, “We’ve met, we’ve talked, what else could this Tas person want?”
“That’s a good question, Zane Obispo” said a voice. The group looked around, but they couldn’t find where it was coming from.
“Who are you?” shouted Reyna, reaching for her gladius.
“I am Tas” said the voice, “and that you’ve met, there is one final task for you.”
“And why should we complete your task?” asked Percy, “I’ve been forced to do too many things for lazy gods who won’t take care of them themselves.”
“Same” said Carter, Sadie, Reyna, Magnus, Zane, Ren, and Aru.
“You will be visiting each other’s worlds,” said Tas, ignoring the people who had just spoken, “three days in each, and then you will return home.”
And in a flash of light, they vanished.
