Summary
Eight-year-old Dick Grayson is orphaned and subsequently swept away to a sprawling estate by the enigmatic and reclusive Mr. Wayne. Dick struggles to find his place in his new family as the ghosts of some unknown tragedy haunt his every step. Excerpt: In a moment of weakness, Dick even asked the Nice Man if he could stay here. He promised he would be good and listen and get better at sandwiches, but the Nice Man only looked away. “I care about you, Dick,” the man sighed, “but you’re meant for a bigger life than this. You and Mr. Wayne… you’ll do good things. So many good things.” Dick basked briefly in the hug that followed, but when he asked the man how he could be so sure Dick was supposed to be with Mr. Wayne, the man said nothing.
