In the newest edition of Nick Nelson's teacher thoughts, Nick takes a few haiku (and one tanka) he's written over the years for Charlie and posts them in his classroom to encourage the kind of loving community expectations he's learned from his favorite person.

I just want for you
to believe in all your dreams
and make them come true.

I just want to help
build you up so you can see
how brilliant you are.

You're trying so hard
to build our community,
loving everyone.

Love, you inspire
so many people to try
even when it's hard.

When you choose to love,
and fight for what's right and good
you might lose "friends," but
you show the world who you are
and who you are is enough.

You model for me
how to check in with myself
and check in with friends.

Thank you for being
your curious, creative,
considerate self.

Don't let anyone,
and I do mean anyone,
make you disappear.
