Pajama Day

Summary:

After too many missions and not enough rest, Eve declares a mandatory Pajama Day. There are forts, movies, snacks, and absolutely no saving the world—just for one day.

Work Text:

Eve stood in the Annex, her arms crossed like she was about to give a mission briefing.

“We have had 11 missions in 10 days,” she began. “Cassandra got goo all over her boots.”

“And mud,” Cassandra added.

“Right- goo and mud,” nodded Eve. “Ezekiel nearly got turned into a stone gargoyle.”

“I would have been like Stumpy!” Ezekiel said for the millionth time.

“Flynn-“ she turned to him, “you got stabbed. Twice.”

“Immortal.” Was his defense.

Eve squinted at him, “not the point.”

Then she addressed the whole group. “The Clippings Book is quiet. My spidey Guardian instincts aren’t tingling. I say today is officially a pajama today.”

“…you can do that?” Jacob asked.

“I’m the Guardian. I can do whatever I want when everyone is exhausted and needs some fun,” Eve said simply. “Go. Get changed. Meet in The Library.”

An hour later the librarians and Eve were in the main area of the Library. Eve wore blue plaid pants and one of Flynn’s t-shirts, her hair up in a messy bun, and slippers similar to Uggs. Cassandra’s pajamas were purple and unicorns and she had matching fuzzy slippers. Jacob wore red sweatpants and a black long-sleeved shirt. Ezekiel had black silk pajama set.

Eve, with Jacob’s help, had set up a sheet across the hall and the projector on the table. They had even collected a huge assortment of pillows and sheets. Anyone coming in would see they were doing something.

“Is Flynn late for this?” Jacob asked, amused.

As if on cue, the elevator opened and Flynn emerged.

He was wearing the most interesting combination. Pajama pants consisting of stars and rockets, a button-up pajama top picturing various books, and slippers that resembled jester shoes.

Eve blinked. “What…happened?”

“I couldn’t decide between the stars or the books. So I picked both,” Flynn said proudly, making his way down the stairs to join the group. “It’s a thematic representation of cosmic knowledge and earthly curiosity.”

“It’s horrifying,” Ezekiel muttered.

“It’s perfect,” Cassandra beamed.

“What movie are we going to watch?” Flynn asked, his fingers brushing Eve’s.

“Finding Nemo!” Cassandra grinned.

“And we’re going to make a fort,” Eve told them.

They built a surprisingly elaborate blanket fort, with sheets stretched between the Staff of Knowledge and the Arc of Truth. The usual central table—now holding the projector—had been moved closer to the elevator to clear space. Eve had even found a string of fairy lights to drape across the top, casting a warm glow over the scene.

Cassandra made popcorn and hot chocolate, and they stacked pillows in the center like a cozy mountain. Once the movie started, Flynn leaned back into the cushions and pulled Eve to sit between his legs, wrapping his arms around her. Ezekiel called them way too cute. The other three Librarians sprawled out nearby, settling in with contented sighs.

Halfway through the movie Jenkins walked in, surprised at what they had transformed the small area of The Library into.

“Oh my,” he said, poking his head into the fort.

Ezekiel was asleep and Jacob was going to be shortly.

“Do you want to join us?” Cassandra asked.

“Ah, maybe next time,” Jenkins replied.

“It seems we need to do this again,” grinned Eve.

Flynn kissed Eve’s shoulder. “Best Guardian idea ever.”
