    This isn’t how I should go.

    Ryomen’s thoughts were muddled, the chill of the sea surrounding him as if he was just an infant in a corpse’s womb. Cold, he felt a burning in his lungs as his unfocused gaze followed a trail of bubbles leaving his nose.

    I am better than this.

    His body couldn’t move, sinking further into the cold, unforgiving sea. He could feel his consciousness slipping, the faint glow of the burning ship now just a blip as he continued to sink. As his eyes slid closed for what he assumed to be the final time, he didn't register a pair of arms looping firmly around his torso, up under his armpits, and dragging him upwards…
