Work Text:
Scar took a long time getting ready that morning, longer than usual, which was a long too long already.
But it was an important day, he was going to the Capitol. Finally what he had been training for his whole life would come to fruition.
He had been scouted as a young child for the Tribute training program of District 1, because he had performed really well in sports at school, and was a really cute kid. Now after years, he’d grown into a handsome man, or almost, since he was still 17.
But he had wanted to win the games for years, and he really thought he could do it, so when his petition to be allowed to volunteer had been approved, Scar was overjoyed. His time to prove himself had finally come, he would make his district proud and that started with looking good when walking on that stage.
Getting to the square he was surrounded by his peers, who were all congratulating him, first bumps and pats on the back were all in order.
The chatter around him struggled to die down even once their Capitol escort Lizzie started speaking, in her soft but bright cheery tone:
“Welcome everyone to the Reaping Ceremony for the 149th Life Games! How happy and honoured I am to be once again your representative. So without any further ado, it is time for the lucky boy or girl who gets to represent District 1 this year!”
Looking even happier than usual, Lizzie basically skipped her way over to the glass bowl, her frilly pink dress bouncing with her where she put an overly jeweled hand into the bowl and swished it around dramatically until she picked a slip of paper. Her voice came loud and clear when she read the name:
“The District 1 Tribute for the 149th Life Games is Scar!”
Scar froze up, but quickly composed himself to walk onto the stage, still surrounded by the cheering of his peers, he managed to smile and wave and bow his way through the crowd.
Once he was standing besides Lizzie, still smiling wide and waving, she began speaking again.
“Well, isn’t this a warm welcome Scar, but nothing is set yet, for we still have to ask: is there any volunteer?”
For a moment Scar feared that it all would be ripped from him in an instant, that a jealous classmate would try to take everything from him. But the crowd stayed silent, they respected that it was his turn, his moment of glory.
“Okay then, please give a big applause to the District 1 Tribute for the 149th Life Games, Scar! And may the odds be ever in your favour!”
