Notes:

A/N: I had intended to NOT participate, but I’ve really enjoyed reading the submissions. This is not the first time I write a one-shot in a day because an idea forms and I cannot ignore it. So I humbly submit an entry for What’s Crack-a-lackin KakaSaku using the prompt Jail buddies, Love Potion, Mistaken Identity, Truth or Dare, Groom/bride kidnapping, talking dogs, Unmasking Kakashi.

Chapter 1: Part 1, Sakura POV

Chapter Text

.
.
She hadn’t meant to start an international incident. Usually, Sakura was the one that soothed things over with the other ninja villages. Being the esteemed apprentice of the mother of Medical Ninjutsu was normally a get-out-of-jail free card. Also, being the Sweetheart of the Shinobi world was a status she didn’t mind taking advantage of either. As soon as the population at large realized she wasn’t the god of shinobi Naruto Uzumaki’s great love, she was fair game and a hot commodity.

If this had been Suna, Gaara would have brushed the incident under the table. She had clout with the kazekage after she’d saved his brother’s life and worked with the esteemed Lady Chiyo to defeat Suna’s most notorious missing nin. She’d also created him an herbal tea that finally allowed him to sleep through the night. The former jinchuriki practically worshipped at her feet after that.

If this had been Kumo, Cee would have reasoned with the Raikage on her behalf. She’d been instrumental in helping Cloud update their hospital. His massive crush on her also tended to work in her favor.

The Tsuchikage Kurotsuchi absolutely adored Sakura. Especially after she used the power of her fists to clear out a quarry in Iwa that led to an impressive mining of silver. And when Sakura introduced her to Tenten and the women were still in the midst of an epic affair. Let’s just say Sakura’s match-making skills made her an absolute gem in the other woman’s eyes.

But noooooooo. Sakura was in Kiri — ruled by the very heterosexual Mizukage Mei Terumi — a.k.a. Kakashi Hatake’s ex-girlfriend. Supposedly, it had been a very brief relationship and he’d been in Anbu at the time, before Team Seven formed. Sakura really shouldn’t be insecure knowing he’d had relationships before the two of them became a couple. He was thirteen and a half years older and an intelligent, beautiful, talented man, — of course others would have seen the charming man hidden underneath his mask and hitai-ate.

“We finally had time off,” Sakura grumbled folding her arms over her chest and flopping back on the thread-bare cot in the jail cell. “I’ve been working so much over-time at the hospital and you said you wanted to take a little vacation. You suggested we take a ‘Baby-Moon’ since we didn’t experience much of a ‘Honeymoon’ before that whole Hanabi kidnapping and psychotic moon-clan wanted to destroy the world. You said it had always been your dream vacation to visit the Southern island of Mist and go fishing. You said I would absolutely loooooove the beach and the feeling of sand between my toes.”

Kakashi sighed and sat on the edge of the cot, it creaked under his weight as he stretched out his long legs, crossing his ankles and arching his shoulders back with a pop. “I did want to go fishing. We’d be fishing right now if you hadn’t punched Mei. Or better yet, we’d be making love on the beach, right now, under the light of the full moon with the sound of the ocean waves lapping at the shore.”

Sakura stared at him in disbelief, feeling a mix of irritation and horny (damn hormones) as his bedroom voice sent shivers down her spine at the imagery of him, naked on the beach with his ripping muscles and magical hands under the silver glow of the moon, — the moon that didn’t destroy the world after all.

Kakashi seemed completely at ease, his usual black military uniform and attached mask lending to his blending with the shadows in the dimly lit jail cell. His silver hair almost glowed in the gloom. “What? You’re saying this is my fault?” She had to look away from those intense thunderstorm grey eyes of his. His gaze made her want to squirm, but she was busy being mad. She would not succumb to his charm!

“It’s really all just a case of mistaken identity,” Kakashi explained calmly, his dark eyes twinkled with bemusement. “The truth is more difficult to discern.”

“Is it? I dare you to enlighten me, Kakashi-sensei,” Sakura challenged, eyes narrowed, cheeks flushed in anger. This man absolutely knew how to get under her skin!

Kakashi grimaced. “Sensei, huh?” He rubbed the back of his head and chuckled nervously. “You must really be mad to call me that, Sweetheart.”

“Don’t you Sweetheart me!” Sakura shoved her hand into Kakashi’s face so that her emerald engagement ring was right under his nose. (The ring was a custom of the West, Ridoku, so it would be unusual for the people on the continent to understand its significant).

Their wedding ceremony had been a small affair, only their old teammates, her parents, Master Tsunade and Ino knew. It wasn’t supposed to be public knowledge until after Naruto took over the mantle of hokage officially. “To death do us part, Hatake. Don’t tempt me to send you to the Purelands early.” She understood Obito very well right then. Their friendship had been very brief — an alliance brought on at the end of the war — a dying man and the medic that prolonged his life just long enough. Naruto could give Kakashi a new eye, but he couldn’t fix Obito? That was another plot-hole she wasn’t going to dwell on too much. “Bakashi!” She hissed.

They’d only arrived at Kirigaguke earlier that day, making the mandatory visit with the hidden village’s kage. You can’t have two S-ranked shinobi visiting in a foreign territory without a visa. Kakashi was supposed to have arranged everything before they left Konoha. Or had Shikamaru do so, but it seems such a detail slipped his mind.

Neither of them anticipated that Mei Terumi would slip a love potion into his drink while they’d been alone in the Mizukage’s office.

Sakura had been given a tour of the hospital by Chojuro, the leader of the Seven Swordsmen and Mei’s chosen successor. Mist was interested in starting up their own mental health program and he wanted her advice. It would take more than a brief tour of the hospital for Sakura give her spiel. She tended to wax poetic on the subject. They’d been in the middle of the tour, Sakura perfectly distracted by explaining her passion project, when Pakkun self-summoned himself and informed Sakura that Kakashi was in trouble.

She’d wasted no time in returning to the mizukage’s office, only to find her husband with his mask loose around his neck, his eyes glazed over with the scarlet haired she-devil’s generous curves pressed against his body, holding him up against the wall, and kissing his exposed neck.

Sakura hadn’t held back when she punched Mei square in the jaw, shattering the bone, — something she did to Naruto, Sai, and Sasuke all the time in their spars back home. With the mizukage crying in pain, holding her broken face, Sakura cupped her palm over Kakashi’s cheek. She sent a surge of healing chakra into his bloodstream, purifying it of the love potion — an assortment of blood stimulants and aphrodisiacs. She was about to punch Mei again, but she was swarmed by Mist Anbu.

Not wanting to start another war, Sakura had summoned Lady Katsuyu and issued the request that the slug heal Mei’s face.

So Sakura ended up in a holding cell in one of the lower levels of Kirigakure’s military facility. Thirty minutes later, a sheepish Kakashi had been tossed unceremoniously into the jail cell with her.

Now, back to the present…

Sakura shook her wrists. “These aren’t even good chakra suppressants. Let’s just escape and go home. I am so done with Mist.”

Kakashi shifted so that he hovered over her on the cot, his arms braced on either side of her head. He leaned down to nuzzle his masked nose just under her ear. “But we haven’t visited the island yet,” he pouted.

Sakura grasped his shoulders and shoved him back, keeping his distracting lips away from her neck. If he’d pulled his mask down she wouldn’t have been able to resist. “If Pakkun hadn’t found me when he did, what would have happened, Kakashi?”

His familiar, dark grey eyes were still duller than usual, a residual effect from the love potion. Then those beautiful eyes creased at the corners into a familiar smile. “Thank you for fighting for my honor, Sakura.”

“It wasn’t like I could stand back and let another woman put her hands all over my husband,” Sakura huffed. She started to sit up, but Kakashi pressed his forehead against hers. One hand settled upon her hip and the other cradled the back of her head, his thumb rubbed lazy circles with tingles of electricity. His hand on her waist splayed over her still mostly flat belly, possessive over the tiny life growing inside. She realized Kakashi didn’t even have any chakra suppressants on his wrists.

“Let’s get out of here. The jail cell is unlocked and we’re free to go,” Kakashi explained.

“What?” Sakura asked, confused. The cell was unlocked? Kakashi had been sitting in the cell with her for the better part of an hour. And they threw him inside, — and he let them!

“I told Mei I was a married man and she apologized profusely. Apparently, there’s this holiday in Mist this time of year where Grooms or Brides are acquired via kidnapping.” He stood from the cot in one fluid motion, lifting Sakura up with him in the process. “She’d been intending to make me her groom. She’s retiring her kage position at the end of the year and thought I’d make a good husband.”

“She’s not wrong,” Sakura grumbled. He was a great husband, if only other people knew that and stopped trying to steal him away from her.

Kakashi’s hands slid down her arms to her wrists and he flicked off the chakra suppressant bracelets. They clattered to the floor with a hollow ring. “You’re the only person I’ve ever been interested in marrying, Lady Sakura Hatake.”

Sakura tapped Kakashi’s sternum with her index finger. “I don’t want to be in this damp cell any longer. Next time, I’m choosing the vacation. Maybe we’ll go somewhere where you have to deal with one of my exes.”

“No,” Kakashi growled, a flash of something dark and possessive through his eyes. She may have punched Mei in the face, but she’d also fixed it. If Kakashi had to deal with one of Sakura’s exes, they would never find the body. “Hold on tight.” He scooped Sakura into his arms and she yelped in surprise, but wound her arms around his neck. Then he was out of the cell in a flash, the smell of ozone in his wake.

“What are you doing?” Sakura asked, breathless and slightly nauseated from the abrupt movement.

“Kidnapping my bride,” Kakashi declared.
