Work Text:
The point man assumes that Cobb is dreaming that he has completed the inception job and has returned home to his children.
He sits in an upholstered chair near the foot of the bed where Cobb lies asleep.
If Fischer's militarization had come up in his research, they could have gone in better prepared. Saito wouldn't have been shot. Cobb wouldn't be in Limbo now.
On the top level of the layered dream, Ariadne told him that Cobb went deeper to bring back Saito. He said that meant Cobb would be lost. She disagreed, but he had been right.
He checks his watch: 8:23 AM. Saito's medical technicians won't be in until 9:15 AM.
There are still four empty beds in the room, unused relics of Saito's contingency plan.
On the tarmac, when Saito and Cobb didn't wake up, Fischer, Ariadne, Eames, and Yusuf deplaned in LA. Arthur stayed with Cobb.
Saito had apparently arranged in advance for his airline to bring any of the flight's remaining dreamers from LA to a private facility in Tokyo.
The point man is no stranger to waiting. In a hotel of Ariadne's design, he waited alone.
So again, he waits alone.
