    Eddie refuses to look in the rearview mirror, knowing he’ll see Buck, somber and destitute, watching Eddie drive off like a ghost on the asphalt. Watching Eddie leave him, like all those before. Eddie is scratching another notch into the chamber of Buck’s heart dedicated to the people who’ve left him, and he won’t be there to lap up the blood dripping from the wound. That’ll fall to Buck. Be left, lick the wounds the leaving caused.

    Or, Eddie moves to Texas, tries to find himself, and lets Buck send him to voicemail.
