Work Text:
“Hey, you know, you never told me how you guys got back together!” Buck exclaimed happily, already a bit tipsy.
Maddie and Chimney finally got him and Eddie to go on a double date, and Buck has to admit, it’s much more fun than he expected. Everybody is laughing and a little bit drunk and the atmosphere is comfortable.
“Really?”, Maddie giggled, “Well basically Chim put Jee to bed one night because my landlord was being shitty and then he let me sleep over and I realized I want to sleep over every night.”
“So basically you two got horny and then realized you are only horny for each other?” Eddie said trying to stifle giggles of his own. Buck would be dreamily looking at his beautiful, doe eyed, FINALLY HAPPY, dreamboat of a boyfriend, it he wasn’t busy being completely appalled at the words that just left his mouth.
“EEWWW EDDIE, THAT IS MY SISTER!!!” Buck cried, the whole table erupting into laughter.
“Whine as much as you want Buck, but he isn’t wrong” Chimney laughed, “Besides, since when are you such a prude?”
“Yeah Buck, if our story was so scandalous, why don’t you tell us how you and Eddie got together?” Maddie added, hiding her mischievous eyes behind her drink.
Buck could feel himself blushing more by the second. He looked at Eddie, but the traitor was just looking at him, one eyebrow raised expectantly.
Well, alright. If he wanted to be a little shit, Buck could play that game.
“Alright, I will.” He announced confidently. “Eddie had been home for a couple of weeks and I was just cooking dinner.” As he started telling the story, he was remembering how emotional it actually was for him.
Buck had known for a little while that he was in love with Eddie, he just couldn’t say it out loud. He figured that if he never said it out loud, nobody would know, and he could continue pretending it wasn’t true. Ah, if only the world worked like that… Buck was making dinner in Eddies (His? Theirs?) kitchen and Eddie was doing a crossword at the table, occasionally asking Buck for an answer. It became a routine for them. Every night was spent the same. Chris in his room doing teenager stuff, Buck and Eddie in the kitchen hanging out.
“Wicked on Broadway actress. Eleven letters, first is I?” Eddie asked, furrow in his brow visible.
“Idina Menzel” Buck answered easily.
“How do you even know that?” Eddie grumbled, writing down Bucks answer.
“Well, I don’t live under a rock” Buck teased, smiling to himself, “Hey, can you come here and try this? I don’t know what’s missing.”
Eddie walked over to the stove, and ate some sauce off the spoon Buck was holding out. Buck DID NOT stare at his mouth, thank you very much, it was barely a glance.
“Maybe some smoked paprika?” Eddie suggested and Buck just beamed.
“THANK YOU!” He exclaimed and, to his horror, grabbed Eddie and kissed him. Right on the lips.
As soon as he realized what he’d done, Buck jumped from Eddie as if he burned him, and started apologizing hysterically.
“Eddie, I’m so sorry, I-I don’t know what came over me, I promise to never do that again, I’m so sorry I-“
“Buck.” Eddie said calmly, “It’s okay. It was an accident, you were excited, it’s fine. Just relax.”
Buck couldn’t relax. He couldn’t keep lying to himself or to Eddie about his feelings. Eddie was looking at him with his big brown eyes that held the universe and he couldn’t believe he was ruining the best thing that ever happened to him, but he couldn’t keep it to himself anymore.
“It’s not okay. It’s not okay cause I’m in love with you. And I know you’re straight and I never want to make you feel uncomfortable or anything so I promise I will move out and this will all be fine, I won’t tell anyone and you seriously don’t have to worry about me being weird cause I won’t be and pleasedon’tstopmefromseeingChris.” Buck couldn’t believe himself. He ripped the band aid off and he was waiting for the blood to start gushing.
Eddie was looking at him dumbfounded. Buck couldn’t read his expression.
“I’m……straight?” Eddie asked confusion evident in his voice.
“Well……yeah? Aren’t you?” Buck asked more confused than he ever was.
“I……don’t think I am, Buck.”
“Oh. Well that’s great, man, I’m proud of you!” Buck said, still unsure of the vibes coming from his best friend (whom he just kissed).
“Buck, I think I’m in love with you too.” Eddie was looking at Buck and Buck was about to melt on the floor.
“Are-are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure.”
“Sooooo, can I kiss you? Like for real?”
“Please do.”
That was all Buck needed. He pulled Eddie close and connected their lips, and he finally felt at home. He knew that this was exactly where he was supposed to be to be. With Eddie and Chris in their kitchen, making out with the love of his life.
“Okay, you are leaving some very important parts out, honey.” Eddie looked at him, bringing him back to the restaurant.
“I don’t know what you are talking about.” Buck lied, trying to avoid Maddies gaze.
Eddie raised his brow, “Oh, really? How about the part where you said the bedroom was, and I quote, “so many miles away”? Or the fact that you made out first kiss sound like a Disney movie final scene? As I recall, and Maddie I am truly sorry for this, Buck stuck his tongue down my throat and carried me over to the bedroom the moment he processed what was going on.”
“Wow, Buck, you really don’t wait, huh?” Chimney snickered, giving him a look that can only mean “Hen will be hearing about this”.
Buck was trying to figure out the easiest way to dig a hole through the restaurant floor.
“Hey, you know what?,” he said determined to change the topic, “what matters is that we are all happy and content. Also from now on Chris and Jee are going to be present for all our dinners, cause we could all benefit from more child friendly conversations.”
Eddie smiled at him and kissed his cheek,”Alright, alright, we’ll change the topic. What are you guys doing tomorrow?”
Buck looked at his boyfriend and just basked in the joy that was radiating off of him. He couldn’t believe just how lucky he was. At the end of the day, shit happens, and some sex between friends never hurt anybody, right?
