Thief of Joy

Summary:

God as much as you wanted to hate her, you just couldn’t. She was the sweetest thing you’d ever seen. She was your best friend. She knew everything about you. Well everything except how much you loathed her. And maybe how in love with her you were—How she had everything you’d ever wanted. The perfect life. The perfect style. The perfect guy—JJ.

Work Text:

Kiara, sitting over there looking like ethereal beauty. One that you’d never be able to compete with.

Her skin was a shiny golden brown. Soft to the touch—it seemed.

God as much as you wanted to hate her, you just couldn’t. She was the sweetest thing you’d ever seen. Her eyes glowed a golden auburn in the sun and were chocolaty brown in the dark, a perfect contrast to the silvery white of her eyes.

She was your best friend. She knew everything about you. Well everything except how much you hated her. And maybe how in love with her you were—How she had everything you’d ever wanted. The perfect life. The perfect style. The perfect guy—JJ.

Shit, she also didn’t know how in love you were with him.

Would you ever tell her how fucked you were in the head? Probably not. For a second, you imagined telling her, spilling every ugly thought, but the fantasy dissolved as quickly as it came.

She knew everything about you… except those few things.

As much as you wanted to not care, to be indifferent, you cared, more than you wanted to admit.

The perfume that she wore. It lingers when she walks, filling your nose like sweet pastries.

And oh how you tried so hard to be understanding but she was everywhere—of course she was your best friend—but she was everywhere , you couldn’t escape her—nor the negative thoughts that came with her.

Smart and sexy Kiara. You’d been losing it lately. As much as she admired you and complimented you, everything she said hit you like bullets on your skin.

She dazzled with a confidence you wished to carry, her eyes were starlit, and she was prettier than Brigitte Bardot herself.

She was like the greatest thing to have ever existed.

The beads and charms that she wore in her hair—you envied those too, they got to be so close to her and stand by her day by day. Just seeing her twisted your stomach in knots worse than the ribbons that you’d adorned—in an attempt to be more like her.

And of course you could never forget how she got the one thing you wanted. JJ Maybank. The love of your life. The guy of your dreams. The man you’d been pining over for so fucking long. You’d been at his beck and call, waiting for him to choose you. All for the golden angel to swoop down and steal him from you. You still remembered the night he laughed at your dumb joke by the bonfire, his eyes on you for once, before she dazzled him away.

No matter how much you tried to rationalize the situation, it just ate you up inside. But oh it was her , Kiara, and that was the sweetest torture you could ever ask for.

People are people right? Wrong. She was practically made of angel dust.

It was like she poisoned everything you did—as harsh as that sounded. But oh how you loathed her. Everything she did was the definition of perfect. You truly hated your jealous eyes and how hard they fell for her. And of course you hated your fucked up mind and how much it worshipped her.
