“Who gave you the right to interfere in my life, Lord Bridgerton?” she snapped, her voice sharp but trembling at the edges. She hated that tremor, hated that it revealed more than she intended. “Do you think your impending wedding to Edwina gives you leave to command me as well? I am not your sister yet.”
“God, Kate, you will never be my sister.”
He stepped forward, erasing the space between them, standing now where Lord Fife had just stood, as if to overwrite the memory of that mistake. As if to cleanse it with his very presence.
