Snow quiet.

Summary:

After the final tour ends and the world slows down, Hoshi and Woozi retreat to a snow-covered cabin far from the noise. There’s no stage, no schedules. Only silence, shared glances, and the kind of warmth that doesn’t need words. Somewhere between snowfall and stillness, they learn how to listen to the quiet, and to each other.

First fic after 3 while months DAMNNNN 🥀🥀

Work Text:

The world outside their cabin was silent, buried beneath a thick quilt of snow.

Inside, the fire crackled softly in the stone hearth, painting warm flickers of orange across the wooden walls. It smelled faintly of pine and cinnamon, and the only sounds were the occasional shift of logs and the soft hum of someone quietly singing under their breath.

Woozi was curled into one corner of the couch, legs tucked up, notebook balanced against his knee. His pen hovered over a blank staff line, unmoving.

Across from him, Hoshi lay sprawled on the rug, chin propped up on his folded arms. His gaze was fixed on Woozi like he was studying a painting. Or maybe like he was afraid to blink and miss something.

"You’re staring." Woozi said without looking up.

"You’re not writing." Hoshi countered, grinning.

Woozi sighed, tapping the edge of his pen against his knee. "There’s nothing in my head. Just white noise."

"Maybe that’s okay." Hoshi said, shifting so he could lie on his back and watch the wooden beams overhead. "You’ve been writing nonstop for months. Maybe you’re supposed to rest now."

Woozi finally looked over, eyes narrowed. "You saying I’m tired?"

"I’m saying you’re allowed to be."

That silenced him.

Not because it was particularly profound, but because Hoshi’s voice was so uncharacteristically soft. No teasing lilt, no hidden energy buzzing beneath the words—just calm sincerity.

Woozi closed his notebook.

Hoshi sat up, brushing snowflakes off his hoodie from their earlier walk. "I mean… you don’t have to be working all the time. We’re here. No shows, no interviews, no practice schedules. Just—" he gestured vaguely at the steaming mugs on the coffee table and the pile of snacks they hadn’t touched, "—this."

Woozi gave a small smile. "It’s weird."

Hoshi tilted his head. "Good weird or bad weird?"

"I don’t know yet."

He stood, stretching, and Hoshi’s eyes followed him like always—like he was trying to read something in the way Woozi moved. Woozi noticed, but didn’t comment. He walked to the window instead, watching the snow gently fall.

"You like it quiet, right?" Hoshi asked after a moment.

"Usually."

"Too quiet now?"

"Not if you’re here."

The words slipped out before Woozi really meant to say them, and he froze, suddenly hyper-aware of how open they sounded.

How bare.

Behind him, Hoshi didn’t say anything at first. Just the soft sound of feet on the rug. And then a presence at his side.

"I’m glad I’m here too." Hoshi said, almost a whisper.

Woozi didn’t turn, but he could see Hoshi’s reflection in the window. Just a little behind him. Close enough to feel the heat from his arm.

"You always make the quiet feel… full." Woozi murmured, surprising himself again.

There was a long pause, filled only by the muffled wind brushing against the windows.

"I never know what to say to things like that." Hoshi admitted. "But I think about them a lot. Later. When it’s quiet again."

Woozi finally turned to him. Hoshi’s eyes were wide and earnest in that way that always caught him off guard. There was something about Hoshi when the energy fell away—the way he softened without shrinking. Like the sun dipping behind clouds but still warming everything it touched.

"You don’t have to say anything." Woozi said.

"But I want to."

Another beat passed, and then Hoshi added, "Can I say it like this?"

He reached out and gently took Woozi’s hand. No drama, no sudden surge of emotion—just steady fingers lacing between his, like it was the most natural thing in the world. Like they’d done this a thousand times in dreams neither of them talked about.

Woozi didn’t answer, but his fingers curled in return.

Outside, the snow kept falling.

Inside, the quiet wasn’t empty anymore.
