Summary
Everyone always looked at Mia, like she was the center of some invisible orbit no one could escape. Chan had seen it a hundred times, the way heads turned, conversations paused, how people lit up around her. But she never looked back. She always gravitated toward him. When he pulled away, she got closer. When he finally leaned in, she drifted back. They were always close, dangerously close, to becoming something more.
Until the day he pushed her away and didn’t come back.
That’s when she started looking back at other people. Smiling the way she used to smile just for him.
Chan didn’t say anything. He thinks about that moment more than he’d ever admit, how different things might’ve been if he’d just taken one step forward.
