Work Header

fall asleep with a smile today

Summary:

Strohl doesn't think he'll ever get used to the Gauntlet Runner's rocking movements but Will has the perfect solution.

Notes:

a little treat for you!

Work Text:

“Hey,” Will says tentatively, voice barely above a whisper in case Strohl is asleep.

He's lying in his bed, face pressed into his pillow in a way that must make it difficult for him to breathe.

Strohl grunts to let Will know he's awake.

“I take it you're not feeling better,” Will says and Strohl lifts his head slightly to look at him.

“I just can't get used to一ugh,” he complains, getting interrupted by a particularly heavy jolt from the Gauntlet Runner that almost makes Will lose his balance.

“Any room for me in there?”

Strohl just snorts in response, then raises an eyebrow when Will doesn't say anything else.

“You weren't joking,” Strohl realizes and Will shakes his head, “I can一scoot over. Probably.”

“No, don't move,” Will says and climbs into Strohl's bunk, lying down on top of him, his chest pressed to Strohl's back.

He gets why the idea of sharing this space with Will had sounded ridiculous to Strohl. Their beds aren't exactly made to fit two people, even when one of them is only Will-sized.

“What are you doing,” Strohl asks and Will can hear a mix of confusion and amusement in his voice.

“Weighted blanket,” Will explains, “I heard it helps with anxiety.”

“I'm not anxious,” Strohl reminds him, “The constant rocking of this thing makes me wanna throw up.”

“A distraction then,” Will tries and Strohl just shakes his head into the pillow.

“You’re impossible,” he mutters and Will just hums in response.

“This is weirdly nice,” Strohl says after a while, voice muffled from where his mouth is pressed into the pillow. He sounds like he is about to drift off.

“It is,” Will agrees, the warmth of Strohl's body and his even breathing slowly lulling him to sleep.
