A Mess to Come Home to

Summary:

Tom comes home to find a mess that obviously was created by his beloved children

Notes:

I love the lizard babies very much and couldn't resist writing for them

Work Text:

Tom stared at the chaos around him. There was nothing he could thing of that could have caused his quarters to end up in such chaos and destruction.

There was food and broken objects of all types scattered about like a storm had passed through.

All he could be thankful was that he had locked up his most treasured possessions in the separate bedroom he had gotten after the babies had come.

Tom looked down at their surprisingly expressive faces. He didn't know amphibians could have so much emotion visible. But he had learned how to ready them pretty quickly once it was his own kids. The three little ones obviously could tell he was upset with something, but were still overjoyed that he was back.

He couldn't really blame them though. They were still so young, and the Doctor was pretty sure they were aging at the same rate human children did, so they were just toddlers.

No it was their caretakers that were to blame.

"Three days," he said. "I was on the away mission for three days."

Harry and B'Elanna at least had the ability to look a bit sorry. Not enough though.

"How did you let three quadrupedal toddlers cause this much destruction in three days?" he asked, letting the exhaustion he felt creep into his voice.

"It didn't happen at first," Harry said. "We made it through most of it just fine."

Tom sighed. When had he become the responsible one?

"So when did it happen?" he asked. "If it didn't take the whole time."

"Just the last few hours," B'Elanna said. "We were going to make sure it was cleaned up before you got back."

"Let me guess? You two got distracted arguing."

The guilty looks told him everything. Because of course they had.
