Work Text:
Eve walked into her apartment to the smell of burning chocolate. A very unpleasant smell.
She rushed into her kitchen, worried that there was about to be a fire. But when she got there she saw an unexpected sight.
Flynn was there and trying his hardest to clear some smoke out of his face and the area above the pan that was sitting on the stove. Which was where the smell seemed to be coming from.
"Are you okay?" Eve asked.
Flynn turned quickly to look at her, obviously not having heard her come into the apartment.
"I'm fine," he said, dejected. "But the brownies aren't."
He looked so sad about his failure at baking. Eve felt fondness in her heart at it. Because she knew that he had been trying to do it for her. And it always made her feel that way when he was trying. Even when he failed.
"It's okay," Eve said. "As long as you are okay everything is fine."
"But-"
"Flynn, nothing is on fire and you aren't hurt. This is so much better than last time you tried to cook without me here. You know how finikey this kitchen is."
His face was incredibly crestfallen. She was going to have to do something more to get him to feel better.
"I just wanted to surprise you," he said.
"You definitely did that. Now how about we clean this up and then try making something together?"
Flynn agreed and they got to work. Thankfully he had been using one of the glass baking dishes so they were able to dave it. And then made a batch of chocolate chip cookies together. At which point they were having such a good time that they also made dinner together. Which was much better than just brownies.
